Still slower on the flat, but a great exploratory run:

Wow the wind was fierce today. I’m still exploring my new environment. I’m also still running up to two and a half minutes a kilometre slower than I was when I lived in the hills (pace 8.49min/km today). But out I went into a wet blustery morning. Just under 4.5k among ancient streets, past the ruins of the abbey that was the original foundation of Abingdon. Then through Abbey Meadow, over the weir, past the lock and back along the Thames path the other side of the river, and finally along the river Ock - a little, meandering waterway when compared with its big brother the Thames. So damp, chilled and blown every which way.

Are you sure you’re not comparing times with running downhill in Chippy Flick? 😉

in reply to TedG

Down and uphill. I’ve done 5k in under 32.25 minutes in the past. I sped up a lot after doing Marcothon. I’m consistently slower on the flat. Apparently it’s due to muscling differently for flat running. Certainly my calves are really painful for the first time in well over a year, and painful lower down and to the outside, as opposed to higher up when I was building hill running muscle. It’s interesting.

Give it time, you’ll soon adjust Flick. A few calf strengthening exercises won’t go amiss 😊

in reply to TedG

Im dog walking twice a day so that’s good calf strengthening 😊

I’ve got a 15k charity run next month so I hope I get my legs by then 😊 x

That is so interesting! Once you've got your flat muscles nothing will stop you. Any terrain and you'll be ready!

Oh I didn't know that :) I'm mainly up and down hill too I'll make sure to alternate and add some flatter stretches in as well too balance it out a bit.

I thought it was your boat there to begin with Baddie.

in reply to Dexy5

I immediately thought of her 😂

I tend not to go for the 'stealth' look like them. I'm more clean, shiny and ship-shape!

in reply to BaddieThePirate

Thats not very piratical!

BaddieThePirate profile image
BaddieThePirateGraduate10 in reply to

i suppose lack of a cutlass isn't very piratical either. (I gave it to a kid at a boatyard I was passing).

in reply to BaddieThePirate

but what will you wear between your teeth???

Chocolate preferably 😁

in reply to BaddieThePirate

😂 kind of prepare to repel boarders brandishing creme eggs?

BaddieThePirate profile image
BaddieThePirateGraduate10 in reply to

I don’t consider Cadbury’s to be chocolate. Dark choc with a decent amount of cocoa is more my thing 😋

in reply to BaddieThePirate

Cadburys isn't chocolate, its fat with a whiff of chocolate flavour. I'm not a chocolate lover really and especially don't like plain chocolate, but since i became vegan two years ago (after over 40 years veggie) I can't have milk chocolate, so on the odd occasion I eat chocolate it has to be plain. I really don't like it so don't eat much at a time.

Hear hear (here). That is exactly what I call it, but I do like dark chocolate. Here's a vegan choc pud recipe for you: chia seeds, almond milk, maple syrup, vanilla essence and cocoa powder. Mix and pop in the fridge. It magically turns in to choc pud and is delicious with fruit, raspberries, banana etc.

in reply to BaddieThePirate

ooh, will definitely try that :)

Obviously 😂 x

Oh Flick my lovely lady, I have full and total faith in you doing the 15k next month. I can understand you have new ground to adjust to since your move, but you run regularly, so will catch up quickly.

I'm routing for you for every step you take chick 🐥 😘👍 xxx
