Running slower, new Mizuno Wave Inspire shoes, and entered 401 Virtual 10K

Hello! Just a quick update.

Regarding my last post, I've been really enjoying running slower, between 7:50-8:40min/km and I've found running slower I've been very much capable of running 7km multiple times. Feeling like I've got my confidence back! So I'm grateful to the My Asics plan for reacquainting me with slower running - I always thought I was pretty slow anyway but it is amazing how much easier it feels when you just run a bit slower.

I also went and had another gait analysis done last weekend and bought some Mizuno Wave Inspire 13s. So far so good. My big toes went a bit numb towards the end of those 7ks in my new shoes so I am thinking about getting some insoles for more cushioning (or maybe it's just a case of wearing the shoes in), but my blisters and my knees are better which is BRILLIANT. Also liking the Hilly Supreme Anklet socks I recently bought. amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00... Also bought some running summer gear, some shorts and my first capris! Loving that too. I spent an unholy amount in Sports Direct though, I will take some of it back.

I also finally got round to entering the 401 Virtual 10K that Irishprincess posted about, which is at the end of August. Watch me go! virtualrunneruk.com/product...

Overall feeling much better. In the past two weeks I've run one 5k and three 7ks, and another 5k tomorrow at parkrun!

EDIT: Shoes photo, as requested! The wavy pattern apparently helps stop shockwaves going up your leg, but forwards instead! Not sure if a gimmick or not but thought it was interesting anyway.

Delighted to read things are good Sarah and you've been on a bit of a spending spree! And the photo of the new shoes is ........? 🙂 You know how nosey we are.

You've just reminded me. I haven't actually entered the 401 run yet as I had problems on their website. Much try again.

Hi! I've added a photo now as requested ;) I do rather like the colours.

Yes, I emailed Etchrock back and forth with them and they just told me to try again, so I did (I logged in first this time) and this time it all went fine. Fingers crossed you find the same!

Fab shoes! Love them and they look so tiny! May all your runs in them be injury-free and joyful Sarah 🏃🏃🏃

Thank you! Haha, they're not tiny, they are a size 7! I'm normally a 6 but was advised to get a 7 to give my toes more space.

I love my hilly socks too.

I must enter 401 race. It's on my list to do.

How many runs a week do you do on the Asics app. It keeps telling me to do 4 and I only want to do 3, but can't alter it like it suggests?

Hi, I do 3 runs a week in the plan. Like you I couldn't see the option on the app but when you create a plan online on their website you can change the number of runs per week. I would recommend making a new plan on the website and then it should pull through to your app.

Sounds terrific! All very positive and fun too!

great shoes and new gear too! I am on the IC, but it has not stopped me spending! Shorts though.. wow..brave... I have invested in a Tough running skirt... :) shorts with skirt over.. hides my bum :)

The virtual running is great isn't it.. I have only done one, but booked for a Kidney Research one in August..( get better leg)...:)

PS

I got Sorbothane Heel shock stoppers from Amazon..they do full insoles too, they are great :)

I probably won't wear the shorts too much but they are double layer so fairly decent! I do find my inner thighs chafe a bit when I wear the shorts as there is no layer between them and they rub together!

Sorry to hear you are on the IC, get well soon!

Thanks for the shock stopper tip ;)

Ooh, lovely shoes! Check out the pinned post about different ways of lacing, that might make a difference to your numb toes.

Thanks! I will have a look. I've tried lots of different lacing before although not with these shoes, only tried one technique so far. I think I might be constricting blood flow at the mo which is bad but would explain the numbness!
