Well it's time for my usual Parkrun report: Wet, wet, wet.
In fact it was not quite that bad, and the drizzle stopped soon after the start. Mostly the puddles were the issue and the back-spatter from runners ahead.
My Strava 'top results' is the best I can say about performance. Not at all sure what 'lactate time' is though. A bit "curate's egg" (good in parts) - it clearly shows it's my up-hill that needs the improvement.
Before the start I got talking to a very healthy looking young lady of the same age as me (69). She said she was a 32 min PB park-runner, but this was her first time in Keswick. I gave her the usual briefing about it being steeper than it looks on the map...
After the run we met up again. I had done my usual 31 mins, and she was a while behind me π¬. It turns out she only usually runs on asphalt, and our rocking loose stones gave her a lot of ankle-wobble. Interesting, since those lateral ankle muscles will need strength and energy, and clearly us Keswickians are trained for it. Not something I had considered before.
I only got in one other run this week, the weather was frightful, and I had plumbing to do at home (which is like Strength training) - a 4 Km on Thursday. Hope to do better next week (my plumbing is fine, thanks), but not Parkrun as I have a baptism to do on Saturday.
Happy running, happy runners!

Actually her 32min for 5Km is significantly better than my 30.4. She was a very petite lady, about 5', whereas I am 5' 10". That makes a tremendous difference to stride length, and hence inherent speed for a given effort.
I have news for you, Oldfloss, at our age, every running lady is lovely. The loveliness is inside, and only those with great perception can see it. But it is always there.
I've been "theoldfellow" on t'internet since about 1990. I was a fellow of a learned society (but found the annual fees a bit high in retirement), and so the epithet seemed apt back then. It has got better over the years.
My 'honoured nodding acquaintance' of 90+ was indeed on duty.
Thank you for your good wishes. Have a great week yourself, brother.
Ooh, puddles and rocking stones, no wonder your young friend was feeling a bit wobbly around the ankles! I hadn't considered the huge difference in surface that all our parkruns offer, and the effects on our muscles, that's an interesting observation.
