Paul...that is fine... this is normal... you are not sprinting in a race, and there is no need to maintain the same speed.

I know I start slowly ( usually uphill!) and then I have different phases to the runs I am running. Today, on a longer run I shall start very slowly.. find some slightly faster sections but then pull back on others and hopefully have a slightly speedier finish. It may not work out like that though :)

Just run this your way... slow done... look around. and then move on as you are doing...

Have you looked at the C25K+ podcast... Speed? It is a challenging but interesting one... as is the Stamina one... maybe take a look... and try them on an outside run :)

Seems normal to me. I slow down when I need to, and stop as I need to. Just listen to your body.

This is a fun hobby, not life and death. Enjoy it! We wanna keep doing this stuff as long as we can Paul

So you’re average pace for 5k is just over 8 kph. Try setting that up on the dreadmill and see if you can actually run 5k at the steady pace. In my opinion, that is more efficient than quick-slow-quick (think tortoise v hare) though i

if i do tredmill i set it at 8.3 which is 5mph and thats 36mins not bad time not botherd about speed

Then logically you should be able to run steadily at that same pace outdoors for 5k. So I’m guessing you start off a bit quicker, that is a bit too quickly for now 😀, when you haven’t got the treadmill to set the pace for you.

I do this too I never stop because I find it hard to get going again so I just slow right down and sometimes I don’t speed up again 😂
