After posting last week that I was putting myself on the IC for a bit .. boom all ok again. I had not run for a week when posting and I think in total I just needed about a 10 day rest and all was fine again

I decided to give myself an extra few days just to make sure all was ok and had originally considered starting my run again this coming Monday. But, I was beginning to start having doubts and knew if I didn't get out I would start making excuses. Plus last night I had a night of sleep/wake interspersed with visions of running outside - must have been an omen!!

So this morning I set out for a gentle test run.

Whilst a bit puffy from lack of exercise and lack of asthma inhaler I still managed a gentle 4km. Not a long run but plenty of time to assess myself and enjoy my surroundings so sorely missed when not getting out.

Now to restart my stretches more gently than before and start working to get my distance up again to a comfortable level.

I think this little spell whilst brief has taught (reminded) me a valuable lesson. I had been struggling with my hip etc since around the beginning of January and sometimes we just need to stop and listen to our bodies and take time to heal and reset.

I still have my usual twinges and aches and am hoping that restarting the stretches can help to strengthen what needs to be strengthened and mobilise what needs to be mobilised.

The lighter mornings and evenings and warmer weather are also more than welcome and now I am looking forward to getting back out again.

Happy running everyone.

Great news Richard. A running break every now and then is a good idea I think. Happy running.

That is great news, Richard! Sometimes it is just so hard to stop and take a break from running to let something heal/settle down - but it’s worth the patience. Very happy to hear you are up and running again!

This all sounds so much like what I've been going through lately! Hip and ankle issues, time out, test run, happy dance! haha! I did a 5km test run and was really paying attention to how each bit of me was feeling then yesterday went for another run and managed 7km with no aches or pains. So so very happy to be back out there! I've started doing more warm up exercises and some really good stretches to target my problem areas. That seems to help! I think the happy dancing will keep me flexible too! haha!
