Hi running friends, as some of you may remember I posted a few days ago that my job was under threat due to the fact the whole company could go under.
Well yesterday afternoon at 4pm the axe duly fell in the most brutal fashion on nearly 700 people, basically get your belongings, you are redundant with immediate effect and won't be paid for days worked in February.
A frantic evening on social media followed but this morning after a long telephone conversation with the company I interviewed with 3 days ago I have a new job much closer to home. Phew!!
Also probably a couple of weeks off to get some runs in. Tomorrow will see the debut of my new Nike Pegasus Turbo trainers (can't wait to feel that bounce!!), a park run on Saturday and the Valentine's 10k in Newcastle on Sunday.
Run happy, run safe.

O you are so lucky Chris getting that knew job so quickly, that was awful what happened at 4 pm. This sort of thing is happening too often nowadays, still must feel sorry for others who have not been as fortunate as you in getting a new job so soon.
Good luck for your running, at least you can relax knowing that you have got a new job to go to.
So glad you took control when you did Chris. Devastating news for you and all your colleagues. But another door opened because of how you managed this. Huge credit to you. Such tough times for so many from a pay perspective too. I see you have a great running weekend planned in those demon 😈 trainers which is just what you need.
Wow! Roller coaster is right. Glad to hear you've already got another job (good foresight to start looking when you did!) and it's closer to home. Yay! Enjoy those new Pegasus trainers!
Wow. Your head must be spinning, what a day. Congratulations though. At least your running will give you some constancy and control through this change. Enjoy those new shoes 😀
That happened to me in the 1970's, lost a job, and got another straight away. The great thing about it is that you know the new firm really wants you, and really believes you bring something valuable. And so sad for all the others, many will be friends, no doubt.
It was and the whole thing was a disaster from start to finish, about 700 laid off with half an hour notice and the senior management knew it was coming for about 4 months.
Phew! It sounds as though you may have escaped this fiasco 'only' (ha!) a couple of weeks pay down. Well done you for not putting your head in the sand and getting your irons in the fire asap (sorry!)
Enjoy your unexpected runfest and I hope the new job works out really well for you. Sounds like more running time if you're spending less time on travel.
