Need help with shoes

Hello everyone, I have been running in ASICS gel pulse shoes for last one year since I first started running. Only recently I find them little uncomfortable and unfit for run as I am running long distances and more frequently. I am looking to buy new shoes now for more stability, light on knees and for further distances. I have done some research on it and looks like ASICS gel keyano and nimbus are hot favourite online. But they are highly expensive. I need more convincing and feedback to go for such expensive pair. Any suggestions are highly welcome? Thank you!

If you've been running for a year in the same shoes they're probably pretty much done.

I can't comment on the asics as although I have some asics for casual wear I can't run in their shoes, however I can say that if you find a shoe that really works for you cost should be secondary in your thoughts.

The right shoes protect your feet and legs and knees from injury. That is worth a lot.

I would defiantly get to a proper running shop and try them out first. You could always then browse for bargains. Start fitness do older models at amazing prices.

Just checked... they have both Nimbus and Kayano 2016 styles at £60...

Thanks for your reply GoGo_JoJo! I understand run should be completely injury free and shoes should be high quality. Last one too I bought online without trying in shop. But as I ma going for expensive one this time, maybe I should try shoes in shop first before actually buying them. Which shoes do you use for run?

I have Brooks Vapor 4 for road running. I overpronate so need stability/support and cushioning. I replaced my shoes at their 1 yr anniversary after 420 miles. The support level had reduced to the point where I could feel the reduction. They run at about £120 which when I think about it as £10 a month to allow me the freedom and benefits of running is so worth it 👍😁

That's awesome. When you think it as £10 per month, it doesn't seem much. It's definitely worth the comfort of running everytime. I will check this brand out too. Brooks ghost was mentioned online in top 10 running shoes. Thanks for the suggestion.

It really depends what is right for your feet and gait. Go to a local running shop and find whats right for you, not what the internet says works 👍😉

I know what you mean 😉

I’d highly recommend you get a gait analysis if you haven’t already Priyanka. That way you’ll know the trainers you buy next are suitable for your style of running. It’s not worth winging it with an expensive pair, and it’s definitely a false economy with a cheap pair, risking injury.

Lots of running stores offer them and they’ll often give you a discount on the trainers you end up buying too.

I had a specialist 60 minute one last week (birthday pressie from my husband) and it was very thorough and really interesting too. I wrote a post about it if you want to see what was involved.

Just an idea ..... hope you end up with some nice new trainers! 😀

Thanks cheekychipmunks for suggestions. I haven't been to gait Analysis yet. But I will definitely book it before buying shoes this time. And no matter the price, I will go for comfort and risk free option. Also if I go by how long my last pair was with me, I will get maximum value out of it in that much period of time. :)

Brilliant! 👍 You might be pleasantly surprised at the price - I was given 4 pairs to try without knowing how much each cost, and the pair I picked was the cheapest of the lot. Bonus. 😀

I think gait analysis is a good idea but I must say I bought ASICS Gel Kayano 25s for long runs a month ago and they are brilliant. Comfortable with plenty of cushioning.

That's what I read- loads of cushioning and support. Did you try them first before buying them?

Yes quickly on a treadmill

Also i got a colour scheme slightly older for them which knocked 20 quid off the price (although they were still £118).

I am getting one on Amazon under £100. Wasn't sure about color- dull grey :)

Do make sure you go to a proper running shop to get assessed for shoes priyanka_03. General sports shops don’t have the expertise. Allow about 45 mins and wear running gear. Our local running shop allows you to run outside in the shoes to judge their suitability.

Thanks Dexy5. I will check out local running shops nearby. There is one showing in Horsham.

Hi Priyaka_03 - i have invested in 2 pairs - the first are Adidias Ultraboost and the second are New Balance 870's - these i got at a bargain price of £88.

The new balance have more cushioning in the forefoot which i needed as i was getting some pain in the ball of my foot with the ultraboosts. I started in basic level asiscs and i still love them but they have no grip :-(

You really need to go into a shop and try them on for feel rather than buy online instantly. Once you have decided you can look around online to see if you can find the pair cheaper...there are many bargains to be had, especially if you can get the earlier version so Asics Kayana 20 instead of 25 maybe? Good luck

Thanks Alison, I am scheduling gait analysis appointment this week and after I know which one is best for me, I will buy them online. I too liked my last pair ASICS gel pulse very much. I will get it as backup as I know it works for me.
