Parkrun #8

Did my 8th parkrun today and having done a steady 30 min 5.3k run on Thursday I was intending to go for a slightly faster pace today. Lined up with a few friends near the front but they are faster than me so there was no chance I could keep up with them. I'm always a bit cautious for the first 200m but got into my running after that and settled down into a good pace. I set my phone using starve to give me time checks every 0.5k. Got to the 1st k in under 5 mins and thought it was hard which was understandable due to the 40mph headwind. So it was a case of digging in and trying to maintain the pace until the turn. Our parkrun course is an out and back one and is quite flat with only a couple of little hills. So made it to the turn and was still on course for a good time. Thankfully now the wind was behind me. I always find the forth kilometre is the hardest and could feel my pace dropping a bit. Somehow or other I managed to push through until the last 500m and even kicked on to the finish line. Still waiting for the official parkrun time but my stopwatch time was 24.53 which would be a new pb. Delighted with that.

Just got the official parkrun time. 24.57. 1 second slower than my pb. 😥

Excellent time Dave, considering the weather conditions. 😊 🏃 Sub 25 is a dream to many runner's even if they can run a 28 or 29 minute 5K on a regular basis.

Thanks. It was windy too so should be pleased but I'm actually gutted to miss out on a pb by 1 second

Ugh, that pesky second! So heartbreaking but you should be super pleased regardless. Next time will hopefully be less windy and you'll nail it!

It's still a great time so I should be happy but never mind as you say there's always next time. Just so happy to be running at all with my knees!

That’s a fantastic time. I’m at 6min/km currently and hoping to get down to 4 1/2 to 5 myself too.. well done!

I'm 58 next birthday so I've got no expectations to increase my pace by that much. We will see how it goes. My plan is to run a 10k race in September and if I can get under 50 mins I will be delighted. Good luck with your return to running. Hope you achieve your goals

5 minutes is ace for a 10K. Will take me a while until I get there. 🙈

I know it's a big ask for me but you got to push it sometimes
