Hi there and welcome to the fourth week of the Quest...January Jaunt!
Here we are again, with the fun and the challenges that the season brings...
But....this is the first Quest of this New Year and it is going to be fantastic!
Many if us are struggling to get out...the inclement conditions, illness or injury, all doing their best to stop us getting out there. Please... be patient.... the most important thing is to take care of yourself.... you are your best asset. The runs always wait,
What the Quest is;
The Quest takes one month . You can join any time, within those weeks.
The main aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a Graduate to join the Quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the programme, your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and Strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:
I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............
Each week, I will pin a new post where all the members of the Quest can talk about how things are going.
At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate that you can download to keep.
Wishing you a Happy Healthy and Safe week

The great thing about running is you can set your own targets! The only person you are racing against is yourself! Running 3 times a week is a brilliant target to have! Well done ๐
My January is going well, 3 runs a week, 1 exercise class and a yoga session. All โ . So feeling pretty good. Letโs hope it will continue for this week!
Now that I am finally cough and asthma free I am determined to get in three runs this week and start to gradually build my distance up again. So this morning I was out with a new playlist based on Hidden 's first singles theme and had a very pleasant 6km recovery run.
This week I'm going to complete W2 of ju-ju's plan and do the 1st run of W3 ๐ And I'm going to do planks/squats on my non run days starting right now (because I haven't remembered to do any yet, so need to make them a habit) ๐โโ๏ธ
1) Dropped a kilo (goal was 1.25) and then Burns Night did for me. I always think "Why don't we have haggis more often?" and then remember why not. Still the way my weight goes up and down only 31st January will tell!
2) All Fitness Advent Challenge activities completed except for a set of tin can bicep curls, and some lunges so should get those in.
3) RED January I've lost track somewhat - most days something I am sure but perhaps one or two without physical activity
4) No more running and I don't think I shall even try to get a 10km run in, not with snow incoming. Still even if I don't run again in January I achieved half my distance goal.
5) 16+ days of yoga practice. As of yesterday I'd done 13 so still in with a chance.
6) Suspect I may not actually get in the water to start my new virtual swim this month.
Last week was pretty good, 3 runs and 3 Pilates sessions (@home). Focus this week will be on the prep for 10k on Sunday. Let's hope the snow isn't too bad.
My goal is to ensure our driveway is clear either by clearing it myself or hailing our neighbor, who has a plow or both. We're due for 8 to 12 more inches of snow today and travel is said to be "very hazardous or impossible." Tomorrow looks a little better with less snow expected and Wednesday even better, but I'm due to get vegetables from our farmer tomorrow and I don't want to miss those. : ( Needless to say, there'll be no running for me in the immediate future, but maybe I can snowshoe?
I have been since you mentioned trying running with the dog. When we didn't have snow and he and I were running, such as it was, that was WONderful! No artificial music, (and I know some like their music,) but that was so natural and fun! Music helped me in the program, but running with the dog is GREAT -- when the weather cooperates....
I'm slowly getting back to something. I did two 5kms this week and 2 strength classes (oh, my poor bum). I was struggling to find something positive about my last windy, wet 5km but I was almost home when a farmer neighbour in his mud spattered jeep stopped, rolled down his window and said "you're flying girl". I was/am neither but that cheered me up.
This week, I'm hoping to do 3 classes and an 8km road race next Sunday and a gentle 5km before that, I hope. And then it'll be springtime
Good plan! I was actually looking for muddy puddles this morning.. all the ones on the fields were frozen...I was hopping over the frozen bits like a small demented kangaroo! xx
Hello Oldfloss , I have managed 3 runs a week in January while doing jujuโs plan again. A parkrun PB at the weekend started week 4 on a high. I should have had an extra day of rest but the weather was beautiful today and wonโt be tomorrow so I did my 8k. What I mean is I did a good 6k and then jeffed 2k. Next week repeats the 8k so Iโll run it all next time. In the meantime I will get back to my ankle and knee strengthening exercises . Iโve been a bit lazy where they are concerned.
just two runs for me last week, the relaxed 5k I mentioned last week and a Friday pootle of just over 4k on my favourite route. I stopped to take a photo of the emus ( the agrecultural college I pass through keeps rare breeds), and they came right up to the fence for a close-up๐. I didn't feel like running the extra bit to make up the 5k and had no need to push for it.
I didn't run on Sunday although I had intended to. The wind and hailstones put me off. But I will run tomorrow!
This week is the start of Roseabi's winter speed challenge on the Marathon and Race Support forum which I have joined for a distance of 5k... not a huge fan of running fast, but I will give it a go.
All sounding very relaxed and enjoyable .. which is what it is all about I am in for the 5K challenge as you are... I don't think I am built for speed!
I think your running at the moment is what we all need to emulate...perfect...
What can I say, no runs, no s&f & no badminton. Been really busy cleaning & lugging furniture, dismantling bunk beds & the like. The good news is though, I went for an asthma review & my results were the best Iโve ever had, due prosumably to this running malarkey. That was really good to hear ๐
Total fail on the stated goals, but kind of as expected with persistent niggles roaming around my right calf and achilles (if it's not one thing it's another ). But a couple of half-decent parkruns and one longer trot so not too down on myself โฆโฆ. drank far too much last night and the latest niggle seems much better this morning , not sure if the two are related in any way โฆโฆ..
