Warm up and increased blood flow benefits.

Not a medic and a novice trotter. But a senior person who makes warm up, dynamic stretching and static stretching mandatory in order to function daily.

Thanks to Abi, who posted a link, over on Marathon/winter speed challenge about the requirement of warming up before sprinting and quick pace running I made a couple of connections.Surprisingly our warm ups, even if done, are only effective for 45mins.πŸ€”

I assume that if you do not keep moving and have a lengthy interruption, presumably you should warm up again.πŸ€”

However the kind of non qualified connection I have made is this.

For treatment of niggles or injuries,

fact and general rule, new injury ice, old injury heat. Both do the same thing, they increase the blood flow to the injury and it’s the increased blood supply that accelerates the repair.πŸ€”

So here is my thought, each time you warm up properly, and increase the blood flow which also increases the contact area in your joints and therefore decreases the point loading and therefore reduces your risk of injury, does it also give you a kind of initiation of a repair tonicπŸ€” to all of your body.

I want to believe yes and I do believe yes.For me it is not a zero return.

Similarly I wondered if as triathletes and others do, dive into the cold sea, if this also switches on repair mechanisms, alla icing treatment.πŸ€”

Lastly for now and not possibly related to the above , static stretching, not over stretching, lowers your heart rate, disperses Adrenalin, and returns your contracted muscles to ensure no cramping and tears and a good following day recovery, ready to go again. So for me this is also mandatory. The dispersion of Adrenalin in the light of Lordi β€˜s experience reported recently, and un explained heart rate spikeπŸ€”, jury’s outπŸ€”it is interesting.πŸ€”

Thank you Abi for posting the link, Runner’s world article.πŸ€”Tried not to go off on one again.

Tbae should be Sir Tbae for the effort he has achieved within the last year, he is surely a inspiration to all of us from 5K to full marathon.

Always interesting posts from you Tbae. I read something recently that suggests "they" now think ice baths are not as useful as they thought. It was related to Andy Murray and his injuries but since I don't take ice baths 😩😳 I didn't read it.

Interesting post (as always). I read somewhere that ice is counter-productive as it diverts blood away from the area when we need increased flow, so heat is better.

On a similar tack, Dr Mercola recommends doing 4 sets of 10 reps of squats, 'standing jacks' – no jumping, just the arm movement, alternate arm swings and shoulder presses, every three hours or so to promote nitric oxide production (which is very good for dilating blood vessels, so lowering blood pressure and protecting the endothelium.
