After over enthusiastic squats and lunges on Tuesday night, the inner thighs were protesting so I was very glad of the extra rest day I’d allowed myself and had a break last night from any more exercise. Today was 8k time. 😱 I’d been previously worried about achieving 7k, but weirdly, today held no fears.
Did it! and it was brilliant and just so empowering that I think I can do this. Still got my 5k to do and thats Week 4 done. Time for a treat as I’ve been running with my phone in my hand (phone arm holder was a fail) and getting tense shoulders thinking it might to time to get a Garmin, any excuse eh? Joined up for my first virtual race in February too, so hopefully no longer a bling virgin.

Thanks ju-ju, it all fell in to place yesterday. I will try a belt first, but think I will ultimately buy a Garmin. This forum has been perfect for knowing which one to buy. 🙂
Thanks Pinkaardvark, think I will have a look for a belt first. Also hadn’t thought either of being a spectacle wearer, a garmin would be one more screen to try and read! 🤓
Thanks Jell. I hadn’t thought of a belt or the consequences of being without my phone either. Thats a really good idea and anything that involves having to visit the running section of a sports shop, gladdens my heart. 🥰
Thanks Fab, again apologies for late reply, see my reply to Bridget. 10k seems possible now, even with my odd cowboy running style. Just temporary I hope. 🙂
That’s brilliant 😃 I’m a week behind you but reading your posts makes me feel like I can do it too 😊 the Garmin is good because you don’t have to keep wrestling your phone out of your running belt (when you get one) to see how far you’ve gone or still got to go 😃
Late reply sorry Bridget a whole 5 hours this morning spent with granddaughter, first at doctors, then hospital for blood tests, then chemist for medication (gastroenteritis) 🤮 💩, then home to pick up dog and take to vets. 5k will wait until Sunday now. You most definitely will do the runs, so go you! 👍 I checked out Amazon this afternoon and they ship belts and Garmins to New Zealand and cheaper than here Hmmm, 🤔
Thanks Fab. Run on hold for now, daughter just texted to say that granddaughter has been admitted to hospital. Not gastroenteritis after all, not sure what yet. ☹️
Hey Fab, granddaughter is having her appendix out this morning (on her mother’s birthday too) Lucky girl it happened when it did as she was heading back to school next week after the long summer break.
Oh no she must feel so poorly. I hope she gets better really quickly now that she’s got her medicine.
I get everything from Amazon so much easier than looking for stuff at the shops and always seems to be a good price too! I got the Garmin 35 and it’s easy to set up and use which is a must for me 😊😊
Yes poor girl, she hasn’t eaten for four days, although she’s more peeved that she’s not able to go to her part time waitressing job this weekend and the boss doesn’t give sick pay. 🙁 She’s saving to go to her first outdoor concert. My tech knowledge is poor, but I know how to press Pay. Ka ching! 🙂
Not to worry Lexi, this time will pass and one day your granddaughter won’t need to work for such places!! Hope she makes the concert fund!! That will be a great reward!! 😁❤️
😂😂 love it Tbae! Not sure I could manage his drawl, but I’ve got his walk perfect. 🤠 My friend, you fly higher and faster than I ever will. You’re amazing 👏🏻
Magnificent Lexi, 8k in the bag. You’re on fire! 👏👏👏
I fully recommend a Garmin. I’m sure I parade mine round a bit too enthusiastically - in fact I shoved it in our friendly Run Director’s face a couple of weeks ago at parkrun when I’d done my PB. 🤦♀️ 😅 Garmins make you feel “legit” somehow! Exciting - which one will you get? 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
i got my running belt from sports direct - a cheap little karrimor one - its brilliant. I keep my phone in there and my keys in the zip part of my trousers cos i can't stand the jingling lol
I set the distance i want to cover on my phone so it counts me down by km reached that way i know when to tackle the home stretch and i use my good old fitbit so i get a miles and km distance.
I am considering a garmin when i come to upgrade the fitbit since the running thing has got serious. I'll watch to see how you get on with it
Thanks alison, I have heard of the brand, sounds like it has everything I need. I’ve currently got my phone counting me down every 500 metres but now I’m running longer distances I’ll change to every kilometre I think and enjoy my music more and be less focussed on distance. Ooh, can’t wait. 😊
