Thanks Tartancat ! ๐ I read yesterdayโs post about the *ailed (canโt use the full F word!) run and itโs made my own mind up. Iโm stepping back from running until Sunday.
I ran 6k on Tuesday, and whereas my time was perfectly fine I found it a struggle and almost didnโt enjoy it. I wondered if I was coming down with something, but no I donโt think so (*touch wood* ๐ค) Possibly leg fatigue after my excess hill running over the last couple of weeks, possibly due to the 30 day yoga โjourneyโ Iโm currently on, or maybe I just need a break. Whatever the reason, TCโs post confirmed to me that we all hit a wall sometimes and thatโs ok. ๐
Iโm following ju-ju- โs plan again just to see if I can shed a few snails this time round, and today was supposed to be intervals, but Iโm simply not feeling it. I have a crazy social calendar this week (daughterโs graduation yesterday, followed by a choir performance this evening, nieceโs 21st tomorrow, and friendโs 60th on Saturday) so running was always going to be tricky. Iโm already volunteering at parkrun, so I think Iโll simply go for a โno techโ amble on Sunday and resume next week.
It pains me a bit as Iโve been a stoic 3 runs a week person since C25K, but I know itโs right for me. My reset button needs pressing and Iโve just given myself permission to do just that!
There, Iโve said it. Itโs ok! Thanks TC! ๐๐

Bless you Cheeky! You've got a busy week coming up. Sometimes you just need to take the pressure off and relax ๐. Youll come back stronger and revitalised - raring to go! ๐โโ๏ธ
And I know what you're like - you'll be itching to join in on Saturdays parkrun!
Have a wonderful time at your daughter's graduation. Take hankies- I cried when my daughter graduated, so proud!
Aww thanks TC, the graduation was yesterday and it was very emotional indeed! Weโre so proud of her, sheโs worked hard! โค๏ธ
I know Iโll be itching to run on Saturday, but weโre out for a rather nice meal on Friday evening with my bro-in-law and family for our nieceโs 21st and there will be ๐ท๐ฅ๐ท๐ฅ flowing. I thought volunteering might be wiser than running the following morning!
But Sunday Iโll pop out for a no brainer - nothing mega as weโll have been at the 60th the previous evening! Bonkers week! ๐ ๐
Thanks Dreams, yes weโre mighty proud and it really is a fun week. Just quite a lot to cram in as well as running - and I donโt want to make it a chore. ๐โโ๏ธ
My snails could do with an outing, so feel free to take them along with you today! Any you donโt need will find their way back here so they can have a rest too! ๐ ๐๐ ๐
Enjoy your run! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐
Youโre so right Jell. Running is meant to be fun after all, and the moment it stops, or gets in the way of life in general, I see no point in schlepping out just for the sake of it. Next week Iโm back to normal, so Iโll be back out there all refreshed! ๐โโ๏ธ๐ช I read about the benefits of taking time off every so often too. So I will! ๐โค๏ธ
Good for you Cheeky, those runs will always be there for you. Special birthdays way more important and congratulations to your daughter. Enjoy yourself ๐๐ฅณ
Thanks Lexi. Absolutely, these are special occasions, and running will always be there. So Iโll enjoy these few days and come back strong next week! ๐โค๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐ช
Thank you IP, yes I did listen to it. I could have gone out this morning, but more than likely would have resented it. So next week Iโll have had a rest, the social life will have gone back to normal and Iโll feel better for it. Thanks for reinforcing that! ๐โค๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Reset reset.... you are doing the sensible thing. I know its hard and is something I struggle with. However your body and your running will thank you for it.....
Sometimes a little break is just what the body needs. Enjoy your break, guilt-free. I find the week after I've been on call for the weekend can be exhausting and tough to get through my runs, so I call it a recovery week and take the pressure off. No forced runs, just whatever the body and mind can handle. You've got a lot on your plate this week. You don't need any added pressure.
Itโs encouraging to hear youโve done the same Sask. I just remember being so vigilant during C25K and B210K and not daring miss a run for fear of losing fitness. Hopefully now I have some in the bank and my body will be better for a little break. ๐
Don't fear. You won't lose fitness, especially at this stage of your training with a week of reduced runs. A lot of the HM plans I've researched has recovery weeks built right in to give your body a break to heal better, especially after an especially tough week. The mileage is reduced that week and then climbs back up the next week. Plus we don't want running to become a chore which is how it can feel when we feel we MUST fit all runs in, despite how crazy the rest of your life is. Enjoy all you have going on this week. It sounds fun!
I've totally enjoyed my more flexible approach lately and running has been much better and more enjoyable as a result. I've not been so struck on the ice and snow though that forces non run days on me! I hope the break does you good and when you resume it feels fantastic!
Aww thanks HS. Youโre right, I think we've earned the right to be slightly more flexible nowadays, and why make running a chore? Iโll be back next week all fresh and raring to go! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Good call, Cheeks. I love a reset week, take one every few months or so and come back so springy and ready to run again. Another thing I love about running โ it makes you more aware of what your body is trying to tell you. Enjoy! xxx
Yay Sadie, thatโs the plan. Come back all springy! Thatโs what Iโll do. And my body will definitely appreciate a restful few days. โค๏ธ๐๐๐โโ๏ธ
Enjoy the wonderful events you have over the coming week cheeky. Your legs will definitely appreciate the break and don't ever feel you have to give yourself permission not to run! Remember how far you've come in a few short months ๐๐๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Thanks so much CH. I know itโs the right thing to do and it means I can enjoy my social occasions properly! ๐ Yes, this time last year I wasnโt even considering becoming a runner! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โค๏ธ
Sounds like a very wise decision Cheeky. I think sometimes we put ourselves under pressure and have to give ourselves permission to do what we feel is right. Enjoy your break! ๐
Thanks Jonathan, itโs odd not running since Tuesday as itโs become such a routine, but my legs are already feeling better and I know Iโll come back stronger next week. ๐ช
Youโre right Wimborne. Balance is everything and sometimes life gets in the way and we have to respect that. It would be awful to resent our runs. Iโm already looking forward to next week! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
