Where to start?

Hi everyone. Jan was looking ok. I was avoiding the frost and starting to plan getting out on the pavements. Made my positive post to you lovely guys and then Covid hit the household. We’re ok and very thankful to be ok.

It’s taken a month to feel anything like right. The damp weather still makes me cough and I’m dog tired. In addition I’ve put on loads of weight while I’ve been off my feet.

My running gear is still folded ready for that morning run, if I even fit in it.

Sorry this is a whiny post. I need to look forward to getting out again. I’m so disappointed with myself for being so defeatist.

You can complain and whine, covid is not your silly little cold. Some people need months to get back to normal. I would suggest to do calm walks for the first time, lengthening them gradually. Once you feel those walks are becoming eadier, you can do some very easy and slow jogging maybe and build up from there. At least that is how I would do it. Succes!

Thank you for the reply. It helps a great deal 😊

Be kind to yourself Comfort, your low feeling is very understandable and could well be part of the effects of the viral infection. You will in time get back into those running clothes and enjoy the good feelings of being well and running again. In the meantime take it slowly, plan some small goals each day to get you started and know you have support here whenever you need it 🤗

The main thing here is that you're all okay. Be kind to yourself and when you're ready just try some walking first. You will be back running when you are ready 🤗🤗

You’re right. Some walks next week with the dog and a yoga DVD. Little steps ☺️

Poor you, what a worrying time for you all. We are all here to listen to moans as well as celebrate as required. Please all take care, this isn't a winter cold you can just shrug off. Give it time , you will get back to running but start with short gentle walks. Take care 🤗

Take great care and build back up slowly. I have just got back from caring for my 2 uncles (90 and 95) who both had it. I didn’t even get it myself but looking after them along with 3 weeks isolation has knocked me for six. So you must be really kind to yourself. You will know when you are ready. Do some yoga or Pilates and build up your strength. I looked through this list of names that have replied to your post. These are all friends who have been through your running journey over the last year. There have been highs and lows for all of us, you have had a low point but will soon be sharing a high, take care x

Even normal flu is a major thing to get over. This virus has an even more devastating effect.

And virus infections like that can cause Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome.

DEFEATIST????- do not use that word, you have a really nasty virus and it will take your body (and mind) a good while to get through it and out the other side. Be kind to yourself and do some very gentle excercise, mini walks, yoga and above all, listen to your body or you will put yourself backwards instead of moving forward!- please don't be so hard on yourself, and REST - Spring will soon be here.🌼🌺

Please look after yourself and see this as a 'positive prep period'- good food, gentle excercise and rest , and be pleased with yourself after each little goal you achieve - you'll get there but it'll take time.🌻

I can’t really add anything else to the absolutely sound advice that you’ve already received.

Stay rested and get well soon.

Hi I know the feeling as last year I started the couch to 5k .All going great then an ankle injury but I managed to complete it just last week after restarting. Cut yourself some slack and recover .you will get out there and hopefully the weather will be better too.

We're all entitled to a bit of defeatism at times. 👍🏻🤗 It's just knowing when to say "right, let's make a plan" and move on from it. Just set a few indoor exercises first. Don't push yourself too hard. Given the weather marching or even jogging on the spot indoors is a good way to help get your cardiovascular system working again. Don't expect miracles in a few days, and don't beat yourself up if it seems harder than it "should" be. It is what it is and you can recover your fitness in time for a lovely spring season 👌🏻😁

I posted my post Covid-19 run about 10 months ago, who knew we'd still be in the same situation!. The important thing is to not push yourself too much. Take care and accept that it will take a while 🤗

I had Covid over Xmas, took about three weeks before I felt like exercising again. I started out with a couple of walks first and a bit of online yoga, allowed me to get back into it without pushing too hard. Take it steady and you will get their.

Why is that defeatist? You've been ill and are slowly (thank goodness) recovering. When your body is ready to get out there you will know.

So many of us have been struggling with lockdown and bad weather but you've had even more to contend with.

Be kind to yourself.😊

Thanks everyone for these kind replies 🌸😊🌸 It makes a huge difference having support. Guess it’s slow and steady for a while and that’s ok. And, if I start from the beginning again with C25K, at least I enjoy it!

This community has made such a positive impact yet again x

Good to hear you are coming out of the other side. Take good care of yourself and your family and just start with walking outings before you attempt to run. The runs will be waiting for you, and just start with a few short runs to see how you go.

Good luck

I'm just glad to hear that you survived this horrible thing along with your family! I don't have anything to add to the great advice above. Take care of yourself and take it slow.
