Chuffed! Me 6 - Gremlins 0

Despite a long time faffing managed to get out about 10.30 this morning and as it was already 24 degrees, didn’t want to muck around any longer. Wore my new arm holder for my phone out for the first time today (mistake 1) and I should have turned my notifications off (mistake 2) first off - a distracting text, then an email. Spotify now playing my favourite 2018 songs, Strava started and I’m off, just as my phone holder slid down my arm and then those little pesky voices started, normally I would be so distracted, I’d give in to them and give up but NOT TODAY!

Today, injury woes banished and after running for 9 consecutive weeks 3 times a week in the hope that I could get that coveted Graduate 10 next to my name, it was time to try for 6k. Ran against the wind for the first 3k, it was so noisy in my ears and I missed a few Strava prompts but my music kept on and then home with the wind behind.

Lovely 6k done and as I started the cool down walk home and with impeccable timing, the glorious, stunningly beautiful voice of Nina Simone sang to me. “Birds flying high and the chorus:-

“Its a new dawn, its a new day”

Its a new life, for me yeah

And I’m feeling good”

Happy running everyone. 🤓

Well done! 24degrees is not to be sneezed at either, so really well done! It is good to kick those gremlins away too!

Thank you Running, 24 degrees isn’t that high, compared to what you run in, so respect big time. Those gremlins of mine have had their say for far too long. 🙂

Thank you! But I cheat and run on a treadmill for most of my runs! Although we are going to start running more in the evenings where theoretically it should get cooler rather than warmer as the run goes on...

I’m sure I’d still get a glow on a treadmill, think 🍅 on legs!

🙂 Thanks Bbr, even with the mucking around at the beginning, I just knew I was going to do the 6k and it went so quickly, loved it, even had enough breath left to sing along to Nina. Can’t wait for the next run! Xx

Ah, that song, first heard one dawn on The Last Exit Traffic album, Steve Winwood at his best. Lovely and inspiring run x

Thanks Flick. Ooh Phoowar! Loved Steve Winwood when he was in the Spencer Davis group, talented musician. I have Keep on Running on my favourite songs list too. That shiny badge seems possible now. Xx🙂

He was HOT! Keep On Running reminds me of being 19 years old, barefoot in a mini dress running over the hills of Herefordshire.

That shiny badge is within your grasp, never doubt it! Xx

Aah! Lovely images Flick. Think we were lucky to have been teens then, my mini is a car stored in the garage these days. I still love being barefooted now, maybe why I’ve got such wide feet! Still I can look at my feet encased in pretty blue running shoes now and that feels great too. 🙂 Xx

Happy times 😊

You had a mini? Wow! Xxx

We still have, OH’s Aunty lost her licence at 90! so gave it to him years back. It was great to drive, (doing my Arthur Daley here luvly little motor, genuine 46,000km on the clock. Retirement plan to do it up.

When I used to drive it to work, workmate and friend reckoned I looked like Mr Magoo, don’t know what she meant. X 🤓

Thanks Fab I just loved my run yesterday. I normally have a different playlist, but wanted something to listen to with a bit more soul and heart. Cried and smiled my way to 6k yesterday 🙂 Nina’s voice is just Wow!

That same playlist will come with me when I make the attempt on 10k, as it lasts for hours, (hopefully my attempt won’t) 😂 Xx

Well done Lexi. Yes isn’t it great to run with the wind behind you after running against it. There was no stopping you today. Enjoy your journey.

The wind makes for some challenging runs for sure, like yours and UTS parkrun I’ll bet. There’s so many VBR’s on the plan, its going to be fun 🙂
