Running clubs aren’t scary!

A change in circumstances mean that I no longer can pick and choose when to run so that (and the cold weather) meant I was worrying about getting out 3 times a week as I’ve been used to. That statement written down still looks ‘not me’!! Anyway ventured out to the local running club and it was their walk and talk week so as a newbie I went out in a group of four and did one minute run, one minute walk. That just emphasised how far I’ve come as I felt cheated of a run!! They were very friendly and inclusive so I’ll go back next week in the hope of joining a slightly more challenging group. Another first this week though. I met someone who said I sped past her (😂 🐌 😂) on New Years Day and so I told her about C25K and she has started! Looks like I’ll manage to keep running in the cold and dark. 😁 🏃🏼‍♀️

Hi, This sounds promising, I have a couple of local running clubs, but have not plucked up the courage to get in touch with them yet, you may possibly be the inspiration i need to do so. Well done!

I was nervous but needn’t have worried - they noticed me immediately and although it wasn’t what I expected I’d rather start off easy and move up. Go for it! Also if you tell someone you’re going to then it gives you incentive!

Do it! After doing c25k, joining a club is the best thing I’ve ever done. Wasn’t fussed on my first. LOVE my second!

I FELT like a proper runner as I found it easy and I still remember week one all too well! Go for it (and let me know)

Good for you Sybil. I’m not brave enough to join a running club! I look forward to hearing how you get on - although I can see what you mean about feeling cheated of a run last time! Just like being at the beginning of C25K!

It WAS like week one only I could do it this time!! 😆At least I wasn’t put off it by being out of my depth. Onward and upward. Like most things it wasn’t as scary as I imagined. Give it a go.

Sybilw that’s great. Well done on joining a club. Like many I run on my own and don’t have the confidence to run with proper runners. 😄

Nearly all my previous runs were solo too so it was a massive step for me but it was either that or a treadmill and I was afraid I’d fall off that!! 🤣 Give it a go - I just turned up so didn’t have to commit to it before I tried. If it’s not for you then there’s nothing lost. Also remember that you ARE a proper runner - I don’t have a 10 badge like you!! 🙌🏻 Let me know if you pluck up courage. Good luck.

Well Done on getting someone to join c25k Sybilw. Numerous people have said that I’ve inspired them to start it but they haven’t yet got out there. That first run is definitely the hardest.

Enjoy your running club , I’m going to join one when the evenings are light again.

I thought I’d manage evening runs on my own if it was light but until then I’ll try to keep up with the club. They go out 2 nights a week so it gives me plenty of options.
