So I started RED January yesterday and wondered if anyone else was doing it? Have a few VRB’s on Strava who kicked it off yesterday too.
Although it stands for ‘Run Every Day’ - I won’t be. I had a couple of occasions on the IC last year so looking after my running legs better this year!
I’ll be mixing it up with gym, yoga and walking. But I WILL be doing something physical everyday.
As you know Ripcurlrana71 I am doing this too, and like you will be a mixture of running, walking and maybe gym sessions. Reading a lot of the posts on the RED January Facebook page makes me realise how lucky I am not to struggle with mental health issues and just how difficult it can be for many people.
Hopefully we will bring a little more awareness and understanding of this to more people and we will benefit too from the daily exercise.
Absolutely! January is a difficult month for many. We all have our down days and I know how physical exercise releases those endorphins to lift my day.
Hi, I’m not doing this challenge, but like you I will be doing something active every day, generally walking into town every morning before commuting across London.🙂
I’ve found running very helpful while facing some difficult times at the end of 2018 and the support I’ve received here, on Strava and our Facebook group has been invaluable. Thanks everyone!😀👍
Take care of yourself and happy running in 2019! 🏃♀️🏃♀️👍
Good for you David. I hope you and your family managed a nice Christmas. It’s a tough time I know myself.
Wishing you health and happiness in 2019. x
HI, I started Red Jan yesterday with a 2 mile dog walk amd a workout at home. will be going for a run today, it's the first time I've signed up for this, but looking forward to it!
Beautiful pictures of Bournemouth and you Ripcurlrana.
I was not aware of this initiative until your response to juju yesterday but it sounds excellent. Running has improved the mental health of so many on this forum and it’s a great way to support the mind charity. I won’t be signing up this year but will tick off activities each day on my calendar to support it. Have fun everyone who has signed up.
Ah! I’ve avoided doing RED because it’s less than a year since I started running, but active every day I can do 😁 look after yourself and 🤞🏻 I am sorely tempted, but at least I have ‘Race at your own pace’ sorted for January.
My plan is to do similar to others on here and combine the RED "active every day" approach with a HM training plan. My schedule will involve something like - run 3-4 times a week, play golf 2-3 times a week, plus hiking, yoga and strength training around the edges.
My HM is on 17th March, and plan also to do an extended "Dry January" until that date, so that by then I am not only fit enough to run a HM, but carrying a lot less weight too
And all that assumes that a) my knee holds up (have started gently breaking it in again after a few weeks on the IC - fingers crossed!) and that b) I can build up to that HM distance in just 11 weeks - if not, then I'll pull out of the HM and take it more steady.
Love the pics of your running route - it looks absolutely beautiful, so peaceful early in the morning. Good luck with RED January!
I haven't had time to open my package yet! I won't be running every day either, but I intend to do something. I did put on my new running leggings yesterday morning (in line with wearing something new for New Year's Day) but didn't get a run in after all. Faced with a choice between taking a dying man out for a drive round the Peak District in the winter sunshine or a run... well, I think there might have been something rather wrong with me if I'd chosen the run. Poor Google's face though after sitting in the car for two hours and ending up back where she started! So I walked back from my parents house with her and my husband took the car.
What a brilliant thing to do, Alka! Bravo! Running has definitely improved my mental health, and I am so grateful for that.
I didn’t sign up for it as my health has been a bit up and down lately, and I had so little energy over Xmas I only ran a few times. 🙁 Once I get over this bout of ugh I will be doing something every day, that’s for sure - it makes such a big difference.
Your plan of activities sounds excellent! Keep us posted (and of course I will see you on Strava!) dear running buddy.
Ok I’m in! I assumed it meant run every day, literally. And whereas I’d love to, being a newish runner (started C25K in mid-June), I’m uber careful about my running legs and trying to avoid injury.
But if it includes all exercise, well that’s fine! I run, dog walk, do (rather pathetic) strength training exercises and do yoga. So if those things count, well yay! 👏👏
Thanks for the heads-up, and happy running in 2019 to you! 🏃♀️🏃♀️
Im doing my regular (about every fourth month), run or walk a minimum of 3k daily, and no alcohol for the month. Alongside that yoga or Pilates twice a week.
