Started off well yesterday new programme at the gym. Dont think the instructor realizes how old I am half killed me 🤣
Did 30 mins running only 3k tho.
Only 15 mins on treadmill backs of legs were killing me. I had been on the cross trainer first for 25 mins tho, then did some weights.
How can someone put 8lbs on in 7 days, I will tell you how non stop drinking and eating.
Started dry January yesterday too I know its 3 days in but monday was my start week.
Best of luck to all those doing both x

Happy healthy 2022 ahead of you 🌟👍👍
Well done and across trainer, I tried it 1 time in a testing day at a gym and I nearly fainted. I tried to follow the other people with speed. Not a good idea! Do watch out with RED January though, often people get injuries because they ask too much of themselves.
My plan to tackle that is to try to run a little more gently than I would normally, and also do some really short runs (2km or so) where I'd normally have a rest day. I might also do a decent walk those days.
Forcing myself out when it's chucking down with rain is going to be the biggest challenge though.
🤣🤣 still have plenty of those just hope I can keep it up especially the tee total bit and then this fat bird may be on the way to being a skinny bird 🤣
Good luck! I am also doing dry January. I’m not saying I’m missing it but today I have already worked out that 1st Feb is a Tuesday and debated whether drinking on a Tuesday “school night” is acceptable 😂
Hey - you never know what will happen! I casually started DJ 3 years ago, imagining I’d never make it through the month. Somehow I did, and then saw a chance to bridge to Sober Spring. By the end of that, I felt so utterly and amazingly transformed that I just kept going to the next target goal. I’m still on my streak. Alongside deciding to do c25k (not at the same time, I hasten to add), it’s one of the very best choices I’ve ever made. Had a great time reading Quit Lit too. Go for it! For most people, they say the key transitional moment is about 90 days in (the equivalent of the Toxic 10).
I gave up for 15 years and rarely drink now. For me the key was finding a non alcoholic drink that I liked, that wasn't sweet and sickly. Absolutely 100% an excellent thing to do.
Initially it was orange juice with soda water (back in the days when I was designated driver I found it had the right volume to allow me to keep up with the lads drinking pints plus it's quite dilute). I went through a phase of telling myself that sparkling water tasted like lager (amazing what self hypnosis can do). At home I drink a lot of different herbal/fruit teas, especially after dinner. Instead of a glass of red I'll have something turmeric or ginger based. I decided that the wine was just a habit so I've substituted another habit for that one. Then I discovered non alcoholic lager while on holiday in Greece. It was nothing like the ones they had back in the 80s, it actually tasted good.
A couple of years after that I sort of slipped into having the occasional (once or twice a week, a can shared with my husband at dinner) real lager. Unlike before, I have developed an 'off switch' and no longer feel the need to drink every drop of alcohol in the house before I go to bed
Wow, 3 years! I only have a couple of beers these days and enjoy those, so wouldn’t want to stop permanently. I’m doing a plan that involves running 5 days a week so trying to give myself the best possible start.
Agree that the current range of AF beers is amazing. Nothing like the rubbish I recall from my younger days, the stuff that left me feeling ill to the chemical load. AF beer is what I leaned on initially: AF beers, ales and lagers. It was fun just having the project to try them all (and there are still more appearing). There are specialist suppliers focusing on this area. Generally, pubs and restaurants have more restricted choice in my experience, and tend to stick with the big name brewers which are less interesting, but the ranges available for drinking at home are incredible.
Like you said, it was also a different type of tipple to my accustomed wine, which also helped. I’m less convinced by AF wine, but there are some very good Prosecco style drinks. Some of the ‘botanicals’ are good too (mix with tonic), or just a few drops of bitters (have alcohol but sufficiently low in quantity to count as AF). My current go-to is kombucha (again, quite a variety to try out).
