Last week my running was seriously derailed!

A toxic mixture of negotiating tricky shifts, short days and pouring rain meant I only got out once for a 5k run.

I tried not to beat myself up about it and made allowances for situations not being perfect but not to slide backwards into not running again..

So this week I made a resolve to get back on it!

After a much needed long sleep I woke up to a beautiful day, so the plan to go for a long run wasn't hard to motivate myself for.

I headed down to the quay and felt good and kept a mostly steady pace. On the way along the river I really enjoyed watching a big group of people kayaking and paddle boarding, some in Santa hats which reminded me of some of the wonderful sights we witness when we get out!

The last few minutes running back up the hill were a bit of a challenge but I did my best to keep slow and steady and finished at a 8.5k in 55 minutes.

Even better, I've been in quite a bit of pain running recently, mostly with some kind of thigh pain which I've done my best to run through, although I'm aware sometimes I shouldn't. There were a couple if times when i was stubbornly limping along! Anyway, it's massively improved after seven days of not running which is a fantastic bonus and a big relief.

So, quite a lot of lessons learned in the last week, but I'm so glad to be out there again and I'm confident I can run at least twice a week over the rest of winter.

Happy running to all 😁😁🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Excellent comeback run, and good mentality... yes life gets in the way sometimes, but that couch isn’t having you back full-time! Sounds like the rest did you good too! Enjoy your next one.

Thanks Unfitnomore, I win against the couch 😀

I did think only the other day I hadn’t seen you on here for a bit CH, glad to hear that you’re ok. Sounds like a lovely long run, good job for getting out there and cracking it. Your route always sounds quite a nice one, the way you describe it. Apart from that hill at the end 😬 it does sound quite a nasty hill...!

Great news that the thigh pain has improved after the rest too. Sounds like the enforced break did you some good

Thanks Thundersloth, the run along the river is wonderful but involves a long 2k gradual hill that's a good warm up running down but can be a killer at the end!

The rest did you good, time for your body to recover. Well done on getting back out there. Sometimes it's just impossible to fit Runs in with the rest of life, but you're back on it!
