Six months after my last stint in the IC and Iโve strained my back again. Working in freezing conditions lugging bags of garden rubbish around...yes, itโs my own silly fault. I really thought Iโd got it sussed as the running, the yoga, the strength exercising - it has all been going so well! And itโs two days before the Santa Scramble, my first chance at some bling ๐ฉ. I suppose I can walk it and avoid the obstacles - not really right though is it? Delicate Pilates exercises for me and possible visit to the Osteopath again. Yay. ๐ฆ๐ฆ ๐ฆ

Ooh TailChaser thatโs such a shame. Hopefully a few days rest will help you. But you must dress up as Santa, even if you have to walk it. Hope your back is better soon. ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐คถ
Thanks Dexy, Iโm going to go no matter what! Just probably wonโt do the obstacles, which is a shame as I was looking forward to acting 30 years younger! Got a freezer block on it at the moment which is doing much better than any paracetamol or ibuprofen has done so far. ๐ค๐ค๐ค
Well weโve been asked to a Royal Navy Christmas Ball, the night before our Santa run. We originally werenโt going because we didnโt want to compromise our run. But a friend has had 4 people back out on his table of 10 at the last minute and has said tickets are already paid for please come and join us. So we are going for the dinner and a bit of a bop and try not to stay out too late or drink too much. Good job the 5k is the last race ๐ ๐ป๐คถ๐ด๐ด
Oh wow, thatโs going to be a challenge! When Katnap had his special long service meal a few weeks ago he swore blind heโd be up for Parkrun the next day. I ended up driving him home the next day as he wasnโt even up to driving let along running ๐. Sounds a fantastic thing to go to though, I hope you have a fantastic (& fairly restrained) time! ๐ฅ๐นโ๏ธโ๏ธ
The first challenge was finding a dress in the wardrobe that fits. Luckily Iโve lost a bit of weight with running. We will be putting the Santa run first though - we owe it to those whoโve sponsored us.
I feel your pain as I've done exactly the same thing. First time it was lifting a big garden pot and the second time it was lifting a dog. Don't. Ask. ๐ฉ
A few days' rest might sort you out, fingers crossed.
Gardening is just a dangerous job...as is lifting dogs! Actually itโs partially our old catโs fault that I have a dodgy back in the first place - she tripped me up on the stairs years back! So maybe itโs gardening and pets??? ๐ค Thank you IP, actually the ice block I wore for about an hour earlier today has done a brilliant job and itโs starting to ease. Still going to be very careful though ๐ค๐ค๐ค
Lifting dogs is a risky operation. Sometimes unavoidable at the vets. Our Old English is small for the breed but weighs 35k! Donโt know whether she is getting heavier or I am getting weaker...sadly probably a bit of both!! The hazards we live with...๐ถ๐ถ good job we love them.
It was my mum's and was only a Shih tzu! But he was old and had arthritis and was struggling to walk down the stairs so I stupidly lifted him from the ground to walk him downstairs to put him in the car. At the time my back was fine, it was only on a run the next day I realised my mistake ๐ฉ๐ฉ
Sadly, he's now in doggy heaven ๐ฅ but I've learned my lesson. No doggy lifting for me from now on, weights are safer ๐
Noooo! How miserable and frustrating for you TC! Gardens are dangerous places, I often get carried away out there and risk doing myself an injury. Hope the ice does the trick and you are back on track soon...
The ice did a fantastic job thank you H. I was really surprised as itโs never really had that good an effect in the past. I really should know better than drag big garden rubbish bags around but itโs been such a long time since I last had a problem. Going to go on a long walk tomorrow to collect the Santa suits, so weโll see how that goes ๐ค๐ค๐ค
So sorry, hope it feels better soon. Thank goodness for osteopaths, I have a brilliant one that keeps me mobile. Had a fab., sports massage last month...it was excellent. Might be worth trying; maybe? Rest, relax...it will get better. ๐
Thank you! Iโm going to see how it goes over the weekend but a sports massage does sound a very nice idea (which is an improvement on yesterday when I didnโt want anyone near my back ๐ ). It is slowly getting better now though Gran4z, long may it continue ๐๐ค๐ค
That's good to hear. Hope it's muscular and not a disc thing. My massage included hot stones, which is so soothing to tired sore aching painful muscles...the warmth was majical. Wishing you well, be kind to yourself, and enjoy the walking at the event. Keep warm. ๐๐๐ป
Oh that sounds sooooo nice Gran4z, I may just picture it in my head when I go to the Osteopath ๐ฅฐ It is mainly muscular I think but I do have a dodgy L3 that flares up occasionally and I think itโs been irritated by a bug Iโm fighting off (as well as the gardening work). I will be so wrapped up tomorrow I will look just like a small, beardless Santa ๐ ๐ผ๐คถ๐ป๐ ๐ผ๐
๐คฆโโ๏ธNoooo! Flippin heck TC! Sorry to hear that, what is going on with us?? Ouchy bums n sore backs just like the old C25K days ๐ซ Mr Flara has done his back in too, been on his back since Sunday ๐ Can only echo ice and rest ~ Grandmother 'n eggs ๐ต๐ป๐ฅ You know what to do ๐ค Happy walking at your event, sure it'll be great day ๐ค๐คถ๐ป๐ ๐ผ Take care ๐ฆ๐โโ๏ธ๐ฆ
Thanks Flara, I thought of you and your ouchy bum yesterday and thought maybe my back had come out in sympathy ๐คญ My theory is that as newbies (& Mr Flara?) weโre all getting very tensed up because of running in the cold and wet, and itโll be easy next year as all our muscles and joints will be super strong and flexible ๐ช๐ช๐ช (well...I can dream...). Roll on the Spring, thatโs what I say! ๐ Santa will be fine, just got to be careful and resist any temptation to throw myself at an obstacle ๐. Hope thereโs enough ice to share in your house, sounds like youโll going through the mill at the mo. You both take care too ๐ฆ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ฆ๐ค
Oh no TC, that isnโt good. ๐๐๐๐ I hope youโll be up and running again soon. Thereโs plenty more bling out there waiting for you. Chin up. ๐๐
Thanks Cheeky, I am going to get this bling, it just wonโt be the same if I walk it. Osteopath booked for Monday, so some severe body crunching & pummelling coming this way ๐ฑ. Going to sleep on the floor tonight see if that makes a difference... Whatever happens, there will be photos tomorrow (not of me sleeping on the floor obs...)๐
I have absolutely no medical knowledge but when I suffered minor sprains, I've used patches like Voltarol. You can keep the patches on for 12 hours and it might just be a placebo effect but they've helped me in the past with a back and calf strains. You shouldn't take ibuprofen or aspirin if you are using this type of patch. The Santa Scramble sounds like great fun - good luck.
Thanks whibbles (I love your name btw, have you got pencils up your nose and underpants on your head?). Iโm using the ibuprofen gel thatโs supposed to go on my hands, but that doesnโt make as much difference as just sticking the ice pack on my back (the ones you put in a freezer bag), that has been brilliant so far.
Santa suits are sitting next to me waiting to get wrecked tomorrow, and weโve managed to book our slots with the gap in the weather by the looks of my weather app ๐๐๐๐
I know how you feel, just back from over a month on the IC myself, there's never a good time, this running lark is so addictive. . . . take care and feel better soon.
Itโs a pig isnโt it? Really missing the endorphins and itโs only been a few days. Thanks ๐ค slowly on the mend now. Hope youโre getting back to it ok ๐
