Well it seems like I’m fated to not run!!! No running injury this time but I have had a small bleed behind my right eye and have been told no running / bungee jumping etc for 2-3 months until they are sure it’s settled down again.
Just as I was starting to get back to a decent distance at last. I had a really good run on the 1st Feb , 6.4k ... the best distance since last summer’s injury...and it felt like a nice run too. I thought “Ooh I can get back on Jujus plan again..”
Then on Sunday I noticed a black speck in my eye ( at about 2 on the clock face) about the size of an 🐜. I thought it would probably go by morning but then on Monday morning there were 5 or 6 smaller ones sorted about too so I went to A&E ( panicking that it was detached retina). Saw a lovely Dr who reassured me about that but made me an appointment with the optholomist?? I think that’s right?? for this morning at 8.45.
4 lots of eye drops and an eye watering ( literally) exam later and ...no running for the foreseeable.😩😭😭😢😢. I am gutted but I am going to walk a lot and get my lovely bike out of retirement. It will soon be foraging season again so lots to take my mind off things

So sorry about you eye limberlou, just by coincidence I had my annual eye test this morning, yes the worst part of it is the bit that the optholomist puts eye drops into your eye, indeed it did sting for about a minute afterwards, in my case the result of the eye test was that my eyes and health are fine but I have a very small cateract at the back of my eyes which may have to be operated on in a few years time, all I have to get are new glasses, I just hope that your eyes will recover and you will be able to run 🏃again in a couple of months time, before that, enjoy your walks 🚶 and the bike🚴😊
Thanks and I’m helping my daughter move house - only gentle stuff but that’s gonna take my mind off things-it’s her dads parents old house and we keep coming across really old interesting stuff - like radio times from the 1937 and 1953 coronations and her grandad a Army uniform and stuff that was her great grand parent’s and great aunt’s stuff too.
Since I started running again this time last year I have completed C25k, then B210k, then relaxed into running alternate days and loving it, then fractured my ankle ( fell whilst walking)...then 3 months on IC, then back and through C25k again. Then back injury, then dislocated toes, bad back again, then Xmas Cough and just getting going again..... and now this!!
Not giving up though- I’ve found something I enjoy and I am determined to be back running again this summer
Oh limberlou that must be so frustrating, but important to do what’s right to let that eye heal. Enjoy walking and cycling and maybe do some of the strength exercises so that your running legs are raring to go when your eye is better.
Take care and rest, retina detachments are very, very scary. I’ve had two in the last 3 years, first one straightforward but second meant I had to lie in one position for 50 mins of every hour for a week, no fun at all, especially if you live on your own........... mmmmm how do I cook and eat a meal in 10 minutes 🤔😱 Good luck
Hope I didn’t scare you just know how easy it is sometime not to follow medical advice to the letter and think it will be ok if you just..... whatever... so just hoped I could be a cautionary tale, not that I had any prior warning the second time, first time I didn’t know what the warning signs were😕
Hi Limberlou, sorry to hear about your eye problem. You really have to be very good and follow the doctor’s orders to the letter with this one. How frustrating! I hope you get the all clear in 3 months time so you can run again.
Don’t loose heart Limberlou. It’s just rubbish when these things happen but wow you’ve already thought of getting your bike out... that’s such a positive mindset. but please go careful. Foraging sounds interesting too.....
Yeah I did a fair bit of foraging last year and made elderflower champagne and cordial, also rosehip syrup, blackberry and apple pies and crumbles. This year I want to do more of the same and elderberry cordial and port too. There were plenty of flowers this year but the berry crop was poor.
