Been a quiet-ish week on the exercise front. A Good Gym 4km on Tue and my usual swims. Planned run on Thurs didn’t happen, though. No excuses except I’d have to have finished before the 11am physio appointment for my foot - and weather was totally foul, so I just didn’t get my backside out there. But I have managed to shift the weight I had gained back, so a veg dhansak beckoned last night and a couple of glasses of JD. No harm done, the weight has been unaffected according to the scales and I ran sub-35mins again this morning, though not a personal best - not that I was going for one today!
The biggest buzz today was the unthinkable happened - I wasn’t lapped! Ok it was a much smaller field of runners and I can’t control what others do. But I absolutely remember the front runners blasting past me when I was only half-way round the first lap in my first couple of Parkruns. I wondered whether I’d ever be good enough to not be lapped - as that would mean doing 2.5km in under 17 minutes. 🥳👟👟
So next aim is breaking the 34 minute mark. Perhaps shifting a few more pounds and no JD or curry the night before will help 🤣👍 In a way, it is a positive thing because I now have the confidence to have a bit of a Friday night blowout before a 5km run.
Lovely to see DressageRider33 out again and smashing the anti-clock route - but I missed seeing Ang3333?! Did you go today? I was looking for a mum/daughter at the first-timers briefing and tried to make myself obvious and wore my purple cap and bright pink 🤮 jacket! Hope you had a great run whether Lydiard or Marlborough 😚
Hope everyone will manage to get out there this weekend - enjoy yourselves! ❤️

Brilliant to hear Equi! 👏👏👏 Extra kudos for carrying the excess food and drink around too! 😅 Sometimes the most unexpected runs end up being great (and occasionally vice versa of course!) You’re sure to achieve your sub 34 mark sooner rather than later. 👍
My parkrun was good today too. My 2nd quickest official time at 37.15 (so a good couple of minutes shy of you), but I was pleased as MMR told me I’d done 5k in 36.48 - might have been 36.38 but I forgot what she said, and I didn’t press stop for a few seconds after going over the finish line - which in turn was a bit beyond my 5k MMR mark! The perils of running tech and stats! My short term goal is sub 36. Baby steps! 🏃♀️🏃♀️
I often make a mess of stopping Garmin or MMR. I now try to stop Garmin first (which feeds Strava), then do MMR after that. I realised that with MMR on my phone, if I look at the 'Splits' blue bar chart, it shows the actual time I completed the 5k above the 5.0 km split, then the extra time is above the next split (or splits, depending just how long it takes you to get round to stopping it!). I still use MMR as back up for when Garmin throws a wobbly
Thanks TC! It seemed to take me ages to get under 35 min. But once I'd got there it seems the next two runs have not felt any harder than before the 35 minutes. It's wierd!
Not getting lapped feels wonderful doesn’t it! We used to have a 3 lap course, which meant only those doing about a sub 25 min 5k didn’t get lapped! We recently switched to (just over) 2 laps which has less crazy overtaking going on - apparently a change made due to safety concerns! 😳❤️
Thanks! Yes, I have a nice black running jacket with a reflective fleck in it is lovely and long and covers my backside (no mean feat!) and I'm saving it for when winter really gets going...
Didn't get to Lydiard today. My sister's friend who runs there weekly phoned to say she wasn't running as it was too wet. So we are postponing our Swindon run.. marshaling in Marlborough next week so not sure when we will get there. Much smaller number of runners here today too. Guess that will happen in the winter!
Ah, glad I didn't miss you Ang - we had a few puddles but only about 280 runners, compared with the usual nearly 500 (or even more!). I may have to visit Marlborough then
Well done Equi- geek - sounds like you are really enjoying your Parkruns! I have only ever done one and have been thinking just recently that as should try to go more often...🙂
Definitely, I go with a sociable mindset rather than a competitive one, so I am never disappointed because it's about the people I get to meet, not the run.
The purple peril strikes again. Well done Equi. To not be lapped shows how much you have improved over the year. Yes just aim for 1 minute at a time and you will get there. I’m determined to do it in 30 minutes at some point but it will need the conditions to be perfect. No parkrun for me this week, which feels really odd.
