Parkrun PB

I tried to go to a Parkrun a bit of a drive away but realised I’d forgotten my waterproof. It was forecast to rain all day. Turned round and drove home. Finally found it folded up into its little pocket, exactly where I’d dropped it and wondered if I could still make it to my closest park run. I did and it was terrifically muddy, perfect for my new trail shoes 👟 . I started near the back and went as slowly as I could which was difficult with everyone in front racing away. When Runkeeper told me my pace for the first 5mins I knew I was going too fast, but I had also decided to aim for a sub 35min time. I did tire and probably had entirely ‘positive splits’, which of course is a negative thing not a positive thing. Oops.

Then I forgot to turn Runkeeper off until a couple of mins after I’d finished my run so I had to wait for my email to arrive with my time.

33.50. Every km was sub 7 mins!!! First time ever! One happy pink runner. Didn’t need my waterproof, it didn’t rain. Went to the cafe and chatted to other runners. I’ve had a lovely day 😊

Thank you. Next goal has to be to hit 33 mins for a 5km

No brainer. You got it!

Well done Baddie that sounds like a fabulous parkrun! The more I hear of muddy runs the more I want trail shoes. Yours obviously worked a treat. Brilliant PB - bet you were buzzing! 👏👏

The only problem is they aren't great on tarmac. It's like the Formula 1 cars deciding which tyres to put on. But slower, obviously!

Just a tad! 🏎

Perhaps we could start a new tradition of posting pics of muddy shoed

Perfect time of year for that...

Thats awesome - well done!

Personally i wouldn't bother with a waterproof. Once you're running you will be warm enough not to mind being wet, and if it's truly waterproof it may make you sweat more, so you will be wet anyway. Take no notice of me - one of may favourite runs was when I was soaked to the skin for a long run and came home exhilarated ... it was winter too!

You're mad! It cuts the wind and keeps you warm until the start of the run. It's one of those really light ones that folds into a tiny pouch that you can wear round your wrist. I wouldn't be without it in the windy Peak District winter. And , most importantly it's BRIGHT pink 😊. Matches my cheeks when I'm running!

in reply to BaddieThePirate

I would go along with it keeping you warm till you start running 😊 and it being pink 💖

Sounds like you had a a great time 😊

Were the shoes completely waterproof?, looks like we might all need some 🌊🌊

Yes! Completely dry feet. Bliss! They didn't stop me getting mud right up the back of my legs though.

What a lovely time putting those trail shoes to good use. It’s annoying when I forget to stop my watch at the finish line too but at least you can work it out on the 1k splits. Well done you Baddie.

I'm happy with Parkrun's stop watch time.

Well done Baddie! 🎉🎉🎉😊❤️ I’m generally a “positive splits” until the last k kind of runner, whatever distance I do. I’ve stopped seeing it as too much of an issue, as starting slower doesn’t seem to speed me up overall and I find it frustrating! 😂

BaddieThePirate profile image
BaddieThePirateGraduate10 in reply to mountaindreamer

Did you try running to music that gets faster? I did feel I could go further when I did that, whereas at the end of this run I was pleased to stop. That could have been something to do with the mud though.

To be honest, for long runs I’ve stopped listening to anything.

I used to use podrunner “music” to get my cadence (steps per minute) faster. Now I prefer silence. I still use music during Parkrun, but think I’m more of a happy long distance solo plodder. 😊❤️

You're a thinker! I still do quite a lot of runs with no earphones. It's noisy in my head anyway, but I do like to be distracted from my run, it seems easier.

I love just watching the trees and the birds, and the seasons changing in nature around me. I never thought I’d be able to run with no music to keep me going, so was surprised to find I preferred it. 😊❤️

Well done on a fantastic run Baddie. Are trail shoes good for mud? Maybe I need to invest too, look at what you've started!! 😁

BaddieThePirate profile image
BaddieThePirateGraduate10 in reply to Crawlhome

Great for wet, muddy, leafy etc. Generally all the stuff your road shoes aren't great at. They are not great on clean tarmac though.

Aw well done. Great when a run comes together after it shouldn’t 😁👍

Celebration with hot drink and cake is just the icing on the cake 👍😃🍰

I’ve not done Parkrun for ages Mind you I had an excuse yesterday

New trail shoes too 👍😃

I chose the completely wrong shoe yesterday. I wa sliding around in the mud like a skater. Fun though 😁.

Fantastic Baddie! Makes up for your Sports Direct debacle. Those positive splits are catching - careful! 😀

I was worried having a running pair of trail shoes and a walking around pair they would get mixed up and I'd end up running in the smaller ones and get black toenails, but I won't confuse them, the running ones are now mud brown. It just seems excessive having 2 pairs. I've not got a lot of storage, and I've not got a lot of feet!

I keep thinking about getting some so I can go 'off piste' but haven't made the leap yet.

BaddieThePirate profile image
BaddieThePirateGraduate10 in reply to JonathanP

I can recommend them. It is a different running experience, looking for rough ground instead of running round it 😊

Great PB and what a lovely day BTP. You have just proved to me why I just have to have trail shoes for my at least once a month run in woods.😀
