Very wet. Very muddy, but a PB at Parkrun (by almost a full minute) thanks to the awesome pacers (and all the cross training in Abi's HM plan which deluded me into thinking I was particularly strong this morning). I knew I'd tried hard for this one by how sick I felt at the end
Got home to a lovely medal and thin long sleeved T for my 50 miles in November.
Neighbour rather spoiled the glow by coming round to tell me they're starting their building work (which we objected to) on 7th Jan! Hey ho. That's not til next year
Hope everyone has a great running weekend

Well done to you! 1 minute off your PB! Brilliant! I confess I'd planned to take part in my second parkrun today, but allowed the rain to say next week would be better. Well done on your HM training and your 50 miles! All brilliant! πΎπ₯π πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈππ»ππ
I'm sure it will be better next week, but I have to say it sounded far, far worse when I was lying in bed than it felt when I was actually running, and I was positively glad of it when i finished! So if it's still raining next Saturday, remember it might not be as bad as you think
I hear what you say, but my husband was kindly coming to support me and so although I have even had an enjoyable run in the rain and know the rain could even have had a pleasant cooling effect, it didn't seem good to leave my kind husband in the rain. You will be pleased to know that I discovered a route with pavements to avoid my usual, now seriously muddy routes, and ran 5k in the afternoon, by which time the rain had stopped. Well done again on your new PB. I wonder how you paced yourself. Probably as you had the help of a pacer, you kept the appropriate pacer in view. Well done again on your PB! π
Ahh. That all sounds very sensible - good job on still getting out there. I imagine a lot of the nice routes will be muddy for most of the winter π₯ For pacing, I simply stayed as close as I could to the two tall gents with the big number 29 on a pole! They were lolloping along with their great longs legs while I felt like some sort of cartoon character with my legs whirling below me (ok. I know. It wasn't that fast π). Without that visual I run much more slowly and am rubbish at pacing myself, they really make a difference for me π
Congratulations Linda on achieving a PB at the parkrun this morning despite the bad weather, well done on getting that lovely medal in the photo for your 50 miles in November π. Not such good news regarding the building work in January π
Very pleased to hear that! π Long may it continue my lovely!
Mr BC said tight ham and calf muscles, and then proceeded to pummel them into submission - eeeek! Back of knee much looser now, thanks, and I am going to get more disciplined about using my massage stick. π Thank you for asking. xxx
As you suspected then, but great to have it confirmed, not to mention loosened up. I have a knobbly roller that I hate. It's very painful and I give up very quickly. Recently I've been using one of the softer spiky massage balls. I tend to use that much longer- I get a more moderate massage but I think the increased use outweighs that. Good luck anyway
Well done on your PB and your beautiful bling Linda. ππππ
Forget about the neighbours for a bit and enjoy your running and upcoming festivities! πββοΈππββοΈππββοΈππββοΈ
I had it in my head that I wanted to be with the 29m pacers, and oooh, wouldn't 28 something sound good .... so I really did try hard for that 51s improvement! The pacers keep me focused, I would be absolutely nowhere near that pace on my own.
The 50 mile challenge was through Race at your Pace. I don't think there is a charity contribution - although the medals are cheaper than other sites, so nothing to stop you making a contribution to a charity of your choice as only a small portion makes it's way to the charities from the other sites I think. I ordered the top as well in Nov because it only worked out at Β£4 extra and I needed a thin long sleeve one to wear under my Mind charity vest I'm pleased with it, it feels nice fabric.
I have to confess, I just signed up for their Dec 75 mile medal - oops
Well done for braving the weather and smashing your PB! I was out at park run this morning in gale force winds and pouring rain on the seafront - madness! - but no PB for me - I blame it on the strong wind against us on the way back ππ¨ How is your HM training going? Sounds like you are flying along! x
On the seafront must have been awful - kudos to you for braving that! Black Park is virtually all on trails in the trees. It was very wet and muddy under foot, mud splashing up from everywhere. I don't now if the weather improved, or if the tree cover provided shelter from both the wind and the rain, but it really didn't feel that bad. My glasses steamed up though, so clearly it wasn't great! When I was walking back to the car I was very happy for the cooling rain and wind
When I was driving home I had my window half open - to keep my glasses from steaming up - and a car must've driven fast through a very deep puddle because all of a sudden I was splashed with muddy water from head to lap, through the window. Just when I thought I was safe too
Ha ha unlucky to get splashed through the car window! I had to keep wiping my glasses on the way back too - as fast as I wiped them they steamed up again! π²
I was peering over the top half the way home. Glasses are a liability in this weather. The visor (or a peaked cap) keeps the rain off but does nothing for the steam!
Haha. I just saw this post on fb from our parkrun ... 'So today at Black Park it was pretty wet, which resulted in our lowest turnout for 3 years (although it didn't actually rain during the run).' So no wonder I didn't notice the bad weather while I was running
I'm really enjoying the HM training. I started trialling it with a 'cycle 0' so have been dipping into it for a couple of weeks now. I'm really enjoying how mixed up it all is, and the extra strength and swimming make me feel I'm doing something really positive towards my ability to enjoy the HM. So far it has really boosted me and I'm feeling very positive Fingers crossed that continues
Excellent, that's so good to hear! Well done for keeping up with it all! ππ Hope I'm feeling as positive as you when I start my plan next week! x
Yay! Great day, Linda (apart from the building news! ) Well done on your PB and that's a lovely medal too! Glad the strength work is paying off!ππͺ
Probably a bit early for the strength work to be paying dividends - apart from in my head π, but then at least 80% of this running lark is in my head so ....
The pacers each kindly hold up their finish time so there was no need for me to understand pace ... just had to keep up with (and try to overtake) the guy with the 29 on a stick π
