Late night gig, beers and a Black Russian cocktail at midnight behind me , I stared out at the downpour. "I've gotta go", knowing I won't run again until Thursday. "I've gotta go , c'mon warm-up". Then Husband says " when you've finished you can invade Poland" as I goosestep around the kitchen." I've gotta go, prove I can do this in all weathers" . Decision to go music-free , phone-free, no stats no tech. Too much weather to think about anything else. Then like a cumbersome hound out of the traps, almost fall out of the door.
Keep it short and sweet. No special kit. "Should I have a hat?" hugging the walls as cars joyfully splosh the entire pavement. I hear the shouts before I see the sodden, youthful football match happening in the rec'. "If those lads can do that then I can definitely do this".Leaves and little floods from the brook, everything shiny. Get in to a good pace but staying on tarmac is not nice .Feel I'm pounding . Anxious about the shins again. On to the bit of well maintained track "Thank you Council and people on Community Service" then firmish grass and round a good circuit with the football parents under umbrellas in the middle again on my return. I rarely run on a Sunday.
Along a favourite little track, amazed the feet don't squelch yet.Back through our beautiful park with the Liquidamber trees hanging on to their marvellous display overhead. Nobody playing on the all-weather terracotta coloured Tennis courts. Whilst looking put my foot in to an almighty puddle. " don't care!" Hot bath , coffee, banana, toast. Happy.
So don't be afraid of the rain lovely running people. It's just a bit of wet! Have a fabulous week.
