Sweating out a cold

Hello dear running fiends

Day 2 of cold and already fed up with it, especially as autumn is looking glorious. So...took myself out for a wee run. No distance in mind, just a run to keep my legs in the game and clear my head. And it worked beautifully. Weird: up coughing a lot of the night, but no coughing at all when I ran. Felt great, and I ended up with a sweet little 5k. Most of all, my spirits lifted with the beauty of autumn.

Hope you are all doing well.

Beautiful photo! I did exactly the same yeaterday. I'm still getting rid of shingles but am now sporting a full blown cold as well - although I'm normally a really well person. As I ran a slow 5k I was hoping if it might really be possible to sweat out a cold!

Sadie-runsGraduate10 in reply to linda9389

Oh Linda, sorry to hear about the shingles - and now a cold. Poor you. Hope you are back up to full strength soon. I love autumn, but not the bugs/viruses it seems to bring. Running with a cold sure clears the sinuses, but you got to also take it easy. xxx

I'm trying to take it easy but the great south run is on 21st so I dont want to have not run for three weeks prior to the event. It's bad timing! Hope you feel much better soon 🙂

Oh that is bad timing! 😬 But maybe little and often will keep you in the game. Plus lots of sleep and healthy food. Will keep everything crossed for you, Linda. xxx

It is very nice to know that your 5k run helped with your bad cold, sometimes being outside makes a cold worse, but this time it has helped you get better. At this moment I am replying to you on my laptop, but I noticed that lovely picture you sent is both on my Smartphone and Laptop.

Oh glad you can see the picture, AlMorr, the park was looking so pretty. And yes, you have to judge carefully when to run with a cold. Mine is quite mild, and it was warm out, so I think it did me the world of good. 😊 x

Ooooh Sadie! That’s some view!! 😍😍😍! I have definitely had benefits from running with a cold too. Self made medicine!! Brilliant! I hope you are back to full recovery soon. Big hugs!! 🤗 ❤️

Thanks Fab darling. If it’s not too heavy a cold, then yes, running can be like medicine. I feel so much better for getting out there! 🏃‍♀️💕 xxx

Nicely done Sadie! Your positive posts always give me hope. Your running route looks really pretty, that doesn't look like London at all!!

Sorry to hear about the cold though, those are a pain :( How are you feeling now?

Better go, I'm supposed to be at work!!

Aw, thanks buddy. I am lucky to live in a very green, leafy bit of Sarf London. But also, the best thing about London is that it has the most amazing, beautiful parks. I have two within walking (and running) distance of my flat alone! The picture is of the smaller, more cultivated one; it has a lovely loop around a lake. The other is bigger and more wild, with woodland. I am very lucky.

Cold is much better now - the run really helped! Thank you for asking. 😊

How are your pins?

That is a beautiful picture showing the changes of colour in the trees. I think we have a week or more to see the vibrant red, yellow and orange down here.

Sorry to hear you have a cold 🤧 but great that you got out there anyway and cleared the tubes a bit. I hear there are quite a few things going round at the mo. One of the downsides of my commuting days was all that travelling with people sniffing and spluttering, often not with hankies . 🤧🤧🤒😷

I had a problem with photos yesterday and spent ages trying to sort it before I discovered it wasn’t me but the app!

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

It’s the most beautiful time of the year, but I am always sad when the leaves start falling and the trees are naked. 🤭 So, enjoying this while it lasts! I work in an office and suspect this is where I pick up my colds 😬 Has been a lot of coughing and sneezing going around, so I was resigned to it. However, my colds never last more than 2-3 days, so I am lucky. Must be the running!

And glad it’s the app, not me, that’s having pic problems!

That's good to hear Sadie, yes an easy run can help clear the head if just a mild cold. I'm contemplating a run today as have had a mild headache lingering for some days now, possibly a tension headache, maybe a little run will help in the lovely Autumn day.

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate10 in reply to davelinks

Thanks Dave. Maybe a short slow run, could sort out your lingering headache - worry a try, right? Hope it passes soon. x

drowning in work! But I went for a run this morning, inspired by the people on here running for 10 minutes whenever they can fit it in. My surroundings weren't nearly as scenic! I was gutted to not fit in a swim yesterday, but I have yoga later and hope to swim tomorrow. Gotta keep a little bit of exercise going to help me keep everything else going! xx

Amazing that you're feeling better already - love that you're loving autumn. Thanks for sharing your picture and your run!

Pffft. Annoying when works gets in the way of our leisure pursuits. But good work on getting a 10-min run in, I think this is a fab idea! Enjoy your yoga. I ❤️ yoga but am really getting into my Pilates too now. Hard to fit it all in! xxx

Sounds like a lovely run! (I can’t see pic on my phone though !) Hope your cold clears up soon!

It’s rather murky up here in Scotland today but I’m enjoying these autumnal runs too! (Also enjoying the Nike running app which you recommended!! ) 😀🏃‍♀️x

Aww, you dud very well Sadie, so glad you made it out. A cold is a cold, but it doesn't half get you down, it dies for me. Plus you managed a frisky, fabulous, 5k. I'm cheering you here 📣📣📣👍👍❤️😘 plus, no cough. Hope you're on the mend and get out to do another 5k or more 😊 xxx

Thanks dear Beth. I only cough when I lie down. Which is annoying. 😬 But the running felt good. 😊 Hope you are well, lovely. xxx

Glad you got out and that you felt better for it too, Sadie. 😃🏃‍♀️❤️ Hope the cold goes away completely soon. Sometimes I think a bit of fresh air does us the world of good when we have a bug. (I like to think of myself breathing out loads of infected molecules and leaving them behind outside! 😂😂)

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate10 in reply to mountaindreamer

Ha ha! I imagine that too. 😂 But seriously, I do believe fresh air and exercise does help with a cold. Thank you for your kind wishes, lovely MD. 😘

Wow, 13km is amazing! Well done you. 👏👏👏Being with a running club must help loads, too. Work stress - ugh. Thank god we have running. 😊 xx

So glad the running made you feel better. And is that the same location that you took the moonlit photo? Gorgeous autumn colour! xxx

Thanks my lovely Flick. And yes it is, well spotted. Exactly the same vantage point, too. Just looked so unbelievably beautiful, it lifted my soul up! Trying to enjoy this autumn running as much as I can. I don't mind running in the cold, but I had forgotten all those weather scenarios of last winter that stopped me running – ice, heavy snow, freezing rain…aaaagh. Don't know how I am going to cope, I even more addicted to running this year than I was last xxx

in reply to Sadie-runs

Yes, it doesn’t bear thinking about. Today is bad enough, with storm whatever his name is junketing around. Extra rest day for me, I’m not going out in that. The wind alone is enough to blow me off my feet 💨🌬🌧💦 get better ❤️xxx

Such a beautiful picture! Convincing yourself to go out when you feel horrible is tough but good on you for doing it! Way to clear those sinuses and get a lovely stress free, no pressure type of run in. I've just got the inkling of a cold starting but am trying to practice mind over matter on that one since I have another race coming up on Sunday. So far it seems to be working (other than waking up in the middle of the night with another ear ache which always happens when I'm battling a cold. Darn underdeveloped Eustachian tubes ☹️)

Sadie-runs profile image
Sadie-runsGraduate10 in reply to SaskAlliecat

Thanks Sask. I find it so much harder now to stay put and rest when I have a cold, as I go stir-crazy! I was sensible though, it wasn't a real rotter, and I knew there was life in the old dog so off I trotted! And oh I do hope your sniffles come to nothing, especially as you have a race coming up. 😯Damn this time of year and its bugs and germs! Take care. xx

Such a beautiful photo Sadie - it's like a painting. Hope you are feeling a tad better. Did a run myself on Wednesday with a cold and I sweated buckets. It does seem to have improved but i don't know if it's related to the run or not ;) Hope you have an enjoyable run tomorrow.

Thanks Paula - it’s the autumn light, it’s magical! Sorry to hear you have a cold too - sweating it out on a run must help I think! I am on the mend, just a pesky tickle cough at night now. Pffft! Hope you get well soon, too. xxx
