I was only really doing up to 5k round the village before the summer. Now I’m doing longer runs on Saturday mornings I don’t want to be restricted to routes with street lighting or having to run later.
So this bit of kit is arriving today which I hope will mean I can keep my options open and still run trails and country roads in the dark.
Plus it’s a new bit of running gear and I’ve not bought anything for at least a few weeks so it’s definitely time. 👍

You might need a tail light too, for the country roads bit …….
A report back in due course on how well it works on a trail run would be appreciated - I've always thought of those things as for emergencies only (e.g. getting home when benighted) when away from well-beaten tracks.
You might need a stronger lamp for off-Road trails! Silva website is good for researching lumens 😃. Even in some darker streets you need a stronger lamp I carry a small torch with a wrist strap as an extra boost when needed.
The Petzyl and Lenser basic torches are fine for general road running though and you can’t argue with the price 😃
It will be fine for main roads but some side streets are very black where there is only the low sodium street lamps The units are light and fit well with no slippage. The trails are completely black though I try and keep off them at night in winter I have found myself in the woods when it’s dropped dark though, and have nipped in there for an emergency wee 😁😎. It is completely dark though and these small lights only give you a small tunne of light
It’s more about being seen I think. Wear plenty of high vis clothing at all levels of your body Head to toe! 😃
You can get carried away with headtorches and lumens. My £15 one is great, rechargeable and more than enough light for trails. For rear visibility I wear a cheap £2.99 flashing led band/cuff on my arm. You can't fail to see me and it didn't cost a fortune. I also have some clips that go on the heel of the shoe, again quite cheap but do a great job of lighting you up from the rear.
*edit* it costs £17.99 now, still cheap and does a great job, two light levels plus flash and red if needed amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01...
Hehe, good stuff. The petzl are the best brand you can buy, I have one for running too, but as it's quite old it is battery powered and not actually that bright but I keep it as a backup. My missus who used to do loads of hill walking/camping etc swears by petzl
