If someone had told me this morning that my trainers had been stolen and I couldn’t run I would’ve said Yaaaayy. I was not looking forward to my first consolidation run. Forecast thundery - it wasn’t - 22°. I was slightly anxious about going solo so I chose to do W9R3 again with a different coach and I was so glad that I did. After the first 5 minutes I felt sure that I was going to experience my first defeat. I kept going. It was hot - I was hot, and sweaty. I struggled. However I did it and hallelujah I made the 5k in 30 minutes 😁 I reached my goal. I am though, anxious about my next run. Are they all as hard as this? Does everyone find it this hard or am I just getting old? I’ve been looking at Juju’s timetable and I’m thinking there’s no way I could do it at this rate. I need some encouragement and words of wisdom NOW! Speak to me - pretty please 🙏

Hi 59er, firstly congratulations on getting under 30 mins for 5K! 😀👍 Very few people get under 30 mins so that’s a huge achievement.🏅Some runs are easier than others, but there doesn’t seem to be any reason to it, it just happens that way. 🙂

I’d consolidate for 2-3 weeks by redoing week 9, just to get your body used to it. Then you can decide what you want to do.

I did that, and followed Ju-Ju’s plan to get to 10K without any major problems. Just trust the programme - it works! 😀

You can’t expect to get near the same pace if you’re doing twice the distance 😳so I wouldn’t worry about it at all. The 10K programme is all about the distance, not time so just take your time and enjoy it. 🙂

Very best of luck with it, whatever you decide to do! 😀👍

Thanks David_G. I was definitely thinking about doing Juju’s plan but after my tough run I was doubting my ability. The same as I did when I embarked on the C25K I suppose! I’ll do as you suggest 👍

Well done on your speedy run, that’s so good!! And yes you are able to do the plan. Perhaps do a few more consolidation runs and then start on the next round? You will be amazed at just what you are capable of....

Hey 59er!! You’ve accomplished something big here!! 5k in less than 30 minutes and it was a hot run too. So, you smashed it! Fantastic 🤩Well done for reaching your goal.

I think ju-ju’s plan is amazing and I absolutely think you can do it. 😁 I believe that being ready will come naturally. There’s those runs where you just know you have more to give and the more that happens, the more inticing the 10k is. I’m just starting to feel ready myself!! 😁 ❤️

Thanks Fabulous450. Yes it was the goal I wanted to reach. Just to prove to myself that I had the staying power. I’m going to try and run when it’s cooler. I’m on holiday so that might not be easy. But hey! The consolidation runs are a stepping stone to that big 10k - go for it!

Just to echo what the others have said really - your 5k pace is exceptional. My 10k pace is around 7.30/km, so try slowing down a bit and give yourself an easier time.

Thanks for the advice - I’m due to run again tomorrow and I must admit feeling slightly nervous 😬 I think I’m going to try a new run.
