As you may have seen from my post yesterday afternoon, I got a new pair of what I'm calling 'proper running shoes' after a Gait Analysis and so I decided to go for a 4km run this morning.
The shoes were pretty good I'd say and I'm glad I stuck to 4km as my foot started to hurt around the 3km. Would you expect this to be normal?
Nothing major but around where I've marked it up on the left picture on my right foot which happens to be the same spot where my previous shoes busted the other week (picture on the right). Its more of a blister type pain and in the last few weeks I've noticed a kind of crease on my foot in this same area so perhaps it's just the fact my foot is restricted like its meant to be?
Thank you all for your feedback and advice! I called up the shop yesterday and the first thing I was asked was whether or not my feet were measured! I admitted that they weren't and he suggested I came into the shop. As I arrived, I explained to the guy I had spoken with on the phone who served me the day before and he didn't seem too surprised that I was having issues!
The first thing he did was measure my feet. I was 10.5 on one foot and 10 3/4 on the other! At this point, he got the next size up (from 10.5 to 11) and he seemed much happier with space at the front of my shoe compared to the previous pair I was given. These were still a wide fit and I wasn't 100% sure an extra half size would be enough but he reckoned that this will be enough so I was happy to trust him as he seemed to be more experienced and took more care during the session I had with him - he made sure he looked at the arch on my feet and showed me how to put shoes on and take shoes off properly (I'm 34 years old and felt like a kid but I was happy to be educated haha!)
I'm not sure when I'll go out in the Brooks 'take 2' as my foot is still a bit sore but I've got some running socks from Decathlon this afternoon in preparation should I wish to go out tomorrow - The pair he suggested were Hilly Supreme Anklet but they didn't have my size and I haven't found them online without a long wait so I went for some KIPRUN RUN900 Mid Thick Running Socks (don't seem thick to me though) decathlon.co.uk/p/run900-mi...

SNAP. a pair of Brooks Adrenaline same colour as mine. Mine felt like I was walking on air when I first ran in them and I have done 8K.Perhaps a chat with the shop you bought them from would help.
Definitely shouldn’t be happening, sounds like the shoes are too narrow for you. Running socks are great but you should wear the same pair when trying on the shoes as you do when running. I’d go straight back to the shop and explain. You followed their advice and the shoes don’t fit. So sorry you are having this experience. Happy running 🤗
Thanks for the advice, I'm just worried they moan that I've been out in them - they're an expensive pair though so should feel right I'd say. They are wide fit as well so not sure why they'd feel like this.
Go back, they shouldn’t feel like that. Running socks are expensive but have support and cushioning in the right places, I ran for almost 2 years with cheap (very cheap) running socks, they were fine, so don’t be forced into additional extra expenditure when you take them back. Stand your ground. You got advice, they don’t fit. They should be super comfy. Try other makes until you find one really wise where it needs to be. They can order in more if they don’t have them in stock. Explain you want to be a loyal customer 🤗
Thank you very much. I don't even use running socks, just some every day socks which are no way suitable. Don't get me wrong though, they were comfy for 3/4 of the run so not too worrying but I think I'll pop in and see what they say, especially as they knew I was reluctant in buying expensive shoes.
I got my Brooks direct as they’re specifically marketed with a 90 day no quibble exchange - even if you’ve run in them during that time. I don’t see why going through a high street retailer would be any different but if it is, contact Brooks direct.
From doing 5k regularly, I switched to “running” socks and I do see a difference in comfort. Also I use sports tape on the parts that occasionally tend to rub and I find this makes a difference too.
Yes Brooks guarantee is great. Just fir info. When I buy from my local running shop they allow about a month running in any brand shoes, and you can still take them back. In my experience, Independent running shops do seem to give better service and advice than chain sports shops. When I bought online elsewhere and had to return a Brooks shoe, after running outdoors, they allowed me a credit or exchange, but not a full refund. The 90 day guarantee, no questions, money back is with Brooks direct only, but they can help if you get bad service elsewhere.
If you want to try something else before returning them, relacing might help. I have relaced all my new shoes to give me more forefoot volume, as somehow with all my shoes (three, so not many, though) my left foot started to fall asleep with tingling painful feeling in the front third of my foot.
Relacing according to #1 Volume Lacing worked wonders. In my last shoes I also used a heel lock (#3) again with huge success in stopping heels rubbing and potentially blistering.
My feet are in bits after wearing my running trainers. I bought my Hoka's during covid, while shops were shut so I didn't have a try on & ordered online. Probably really silly of me but I needed some proper running shoes. They're super bouncy and supportive, but I have quite a high arch & right along from the side of my big toes to the highest part of my arch is blistered... very painful! I've gone back to my £20 Nike non-running shoes!😫
Brooks come up true to size you should not need to go bigger, I am on my 4th set of shoes from them all have been normal size, and I do not wear "running socks" either.
And my 4 pairs have all been half to one size bigger.....
I join the others in saying to go back to the shop and explain. As for socks, I have cheap running socks from Decathlon, but they are good. I forgot to take them with me this weekend and ran 10K in regular day to day socks. At kilometer9 I started to feel a bit of an ache on 1 toe. In the end no blood or so, but the toe feels a bit raw, as if chafed but without a wound. I think it's because a regular sock has a seem at the front of the toes, while a running sock doesn't? So if I were you, I'd invest in a few running socks. Doesn't have to be expensive.
Good morning Kish247. Have you gone up a half size to a full size to allow for swelling when feet get warm? I wear Brooks and normal size for me is 6 so in Brooks I have 6.5. They are very comfy and don’t nip or produce blisters. Just a thought. However I would go back to the shop just for some advice and don’t forget Brooks have a 90 day return policy.
Glad to hear the shop is doing the right thing. Just run a short distance on your first run and see how you get on.
Brilliant news Kish. So pleased that you went back to the shop. The chap seems to know his stuff from the update post I’ve just read. So good luck in your new Brooks when you do go out for a run in them . I’m sure they are going to be great this time.
