B210K W4R3 - 8K baby!

Evening all,

Quick report/update...... I did it, I did it, I did it! 8K’s in the bag, thank you very much!

I couldn’t drive to my riverside retreat tonight so decided to run around my town. I had a rough idea of the route that I’d need and only had to add 1 loop and a small bit of back / forth at the end.

Calves calmed down after some initial grumbles, but the cramp in my right foot returned again with a vengeance! I only get this with distances over 5/6k and have started to roll the base of my foot with a tennis ball.

Had to do a few short stops to massage / wiggle toes around and managed to run it out towards the end and one during when I had to navigate some bushes and and fence to find the path I thought was there lol!!

Overall, very pleased. Had some niggles / pain but all in all it was ok for my first ever run around my town.

That’s a good run, Mitch, well done! 8k woo hoo! Sorry to hear about the cramp though - how annoying.

You are doing great; not long before you reach the 10k mark now!

It’s really strange. Kept coming back and then nothing unless I tried to propel off of my right foot!

Cheers- getting to a distance / time where I need some fluid ( hate carrying anything) or some dedicated EJBs to help the dry mouth!

Great run Mitch! Sounds like you are really enjoying this running mullarky, which is a massive bonus and means you are now fully hooked 😀🏃🏻‍♀️

Oh yes! Still a little in awe of the whole thing. At the start of the year I was still worried if my knee would hold up after the surgery, but now I don't even think about it!!

Well done Mitch!! Fab 8k run, just a hop, skip and jump to 10k. 😀😉

Definitely - I'll be hopping & skipping in the next few weeks :D

Fantastic Mitch! I’m sure you’ve realised but that’s a 5 mile run! I’m fond of a bit of to-ing and fro-ing at the end of a run too!

Glad your pain and niggles mainly under control.

LoungeLizaardGraduate10 in reply to_SimonT_

Cheers Simon - My foot tendons definitely need some work tho! lol. - 9k next week hopefully!

Brilliant - well done Mitch! 👍😃🏃‍♂️❤️

8k for me yesterday morning - feels like we’re nearly there now, doesn’t it? 😊 I’m already feeling I might go for the shorter plan and not repeat the 8&9k weeks - would give me the option of a 10k local fun run mid Sept, with possibly 2x 10ks under my belt before it... Not things I thought you’d hear me say a few weeks ago! 😂😃

The programme's got us this far very happily dreamer ….. if you stick with it, that 10k fun run could be your graduation and a double celebration :-) :-) .

There's probably a reason behind those 8k and 9k consolidations ….. I'm sure you could skip them, but I don't think I will.

mountaindreamer profile image
mountaindreamerGraduate10 in reply toUpTheStanley

I said that before yesterday’s 8k, UpTheStanley , but am now split. I’m blaming Jay66UK for giving me the idea! 😂😂

From spotting other comments, it does sound as if the 10K plan used to be a 6 week one without the repeats, a number of recent graduates seemed to shorten weeks without issues, and adding 1k a week seems to fit safely in the 10% increase per week rule... And ju-ju- says the plan is fairly flexible.

I’m not brave enough to enter even a fun run before trying out the distance a couple of times first...😳

And I’m just following a well trodden path...

Without doing anything reckless, it’s just down to personal preference I think.

Everyone is the best judge of what’s best for them. Except those who aren’t.

mountaindreamerGraduate10 in reply toJay66UK

Love it, Jay! 😂😂😂

Never been sure about my judgement abilities...could be a good test! 😉❤️

UpTheStanley profile image
UpTheStanleyGraduate10 in reply tomountaindreamer

I probably just don't want you to finish before me ….. :-)

mountaindreamer profile image
mountaindreamerGraduate10 in reply toUpTheStanley

Aw...we’re never going to be as fast as you, UpTheStanley ! So you’ll always win if we’re racing to finish. 😂❤️

LoungeLizaard profile image
LoungeLizaardGraduate10 in reply tomountaindreamer

I'm with Jay66UK as well.... I could have actually gone a bit further, but my right foot was not playing nicely lol. I'm already planning on 9k next Wednesday.... but I'll be doing a lot of ball rolling on my feet before that! lol.

But yes Marie, I think you are right, we all know what our bodies are saying, and essentially each 10% increase comes from the confidence gained from the last run I guess! :D

You are all doing brilliantly. To think you graduated from c25k only a month ago. Well done 🏃‍♂️👏

Nice going Mitch, good pace too! I've got 8k coming up on Monday. Can't say I'm looking forward to it

LoungeLizaard profile image
LoungeLizaardGraduate10 in reply totelford_mike

You’ll fly round it Mike! My 7k last week was only just slower (total time)..... just remember to hydrate before hand! I was gasping at the end lol.... (but I hate carrying bottles!)

telford_mike profile image
telford_mikeGraduate10 in reply toLoungeLizaard

Yeah it's funny how that happens - my 7k was only 2 minutes slower than my 6k the week before. Got myself one of those marathon vests so I can carry a bottle 💦🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♂️

Yay! Well done on the 8k. Sorry to hear about the cramp though - that sounds really annoying. I hope the tennis ball helps. I had some pain in my left foot for 3 weeks or so while doing the C25K and I was scared it was plantar fasciitis, so just rolled my foot on a tin of beans whenever I was sat down. It seemed to do the trick. Calf stretches might help too.

Just read this as have been away with 3 kids this week so kept busy! Managed to keep running though 😆. See you’re quite local to me too. Great job though. I remember when 8 min was an achievement and it wasn’t too long ago!!
