Running 7:1 Gremlins

Well, after 3 weeks or so doing only 1 run a week and moving the rest of my cardio onto an elliptical machine, I thought I'd try a veeeery slow long run this morning. As I've been doing a lot of low impact exercise I felt I'd try to keep going where I left off, so 8k.

Wanting to be very careful, and having some time available today, I started with my calf raises and squats, then a little bit of foam rolling and then some stretches. Then 5 minutes slow walk and 5 minutes brisk walk. Started out the run at a very leisurely pace... my running belt was driving me mad (but for the environmental impact, it would have gone in the river!), my headphones wouldn't stay put, I couldn't get comfortable... then I realised I hadn't started my running watch. Almost gave up and went home at that point. Gremlins took the first 0.5k.

But then I got settled and just kept plodding along. Coach Bennet was very helpful in this regard and made me smile a few times (the 5 mile run). I found the commentary on how to "shape" the run (in terms of pace) very useful, and the idea of getting input at specific distances (rather than times) was novel and saved me from the disaster of not starting my watch. Had a bit of a wobble for a few moments when I got a strange pain in my bum, but this resolved within 5 minutes or so.

Anyhow, I got to the end and then a bit more to get back to the point I normally end my run. So I reckon it was at least 8.25k today.

Hurray! Back on track. :)

So good to know you are back Pianism.... I've had to follow Bridge to 10K to keep up with your latest adventures! (Nice pic too - very cool!) Bet you did your 8.25k quicker than my 5k today!!!

Oooh sorry... am I neglecting C25k?... my mind hasn't been on it recently. But thank you for your lovely comment. :)

Your 5k was faster than my 8k, have no worries. :)

You think 5 mile run is cool? You gotta run that 10k run one!

Perhaps the week after next when I'm on holiday in Bournemouth. According to Google, if I set out from the pier I'll just about be scaring the posh folk of Sandbanks by the time I need to turn around and come back. :)

Strangely I’ve been invited by a friend from New Zealand to meet up for a few beers in Bournemouth soon... long way to go for a few pints, but it’s possible as he’s only over for a couple of weeks and not heading north. Enjoy getting the residents of sandbanks nervous!

Not as far as going to NZ to meet up though!

I fully expect to get arrested and escorted back to steerage!

Yes, I do too. I don't know if it's the different trainers or the fact that I've moved one of my runs to the treadmill or if it's the increased activity in between. Whatever it is, I hope it lasts.

Thank you - avoidance of injury is the number 1 priority so I can get through this 10k run in July!

Well done! Yes that podcast is good and the trick of speeding up to readjust yourself really is very useful. Well done on running over 8km, what progress we are making!!

We are indeed. How strange that my only plans for my week down south include visiting the gym, avoiding cooked breakfasts and running. Hopefully my first 10k and then Poole parkrun! :)

When and where are you planning the 10km?

Today I went into the sport shop “to look at” trail shoes... the owner who met me before I started C25k asked me how it was going, I said proudly: I’ve run 10km and then mumbled, might train for a hm... mumble mumble.

I'll be in Bournemouth the week after next. If all goes well it'll be while I'm there but no specific day or time planned. :)

Well I’ll just consolidate on 10km and then just try to run a bit further, nothing fancy!

Aaaaannnndddd..... He's back!!!! 🎉 I'm very impressed by the thorough warm-up exercises, it's the best way to avoid injury. Which I know, but I still forget sometimes 😳
