A little run for a big boost

So I was just starting to recover from my horrid temperature a couple of weeks ago when I got bitten by a horse fly whilst gardening at the weekend. So another week off running whilst I waited for my swollen, pus filled foot to stop ballooning and finally go down. It had returned to normal yesterday and decided to risk a run this morning.

6.00am and just before the alarm went off I was awoken by cramp in my left calf that had me both shrieking and doing that fast rubbing action at the same time. Luckily it subsided quite quickly and I decided I was going for a run whatever. Stretches a bit, walked for 5 minutes on my way to my normal starting spot and then worked out I was too tired to try anything too hard (wow common sense finally kicking in...only taken a few decades to learn).

So I ran my old c25k route as I knew I wouldn't have to think about the route itself and could just focus on the run. It's just over 3k so short but god it was good. The air had that coolness you get just before the sun really starts to kick in and as I drifted off into my own little world it was so nice just to run. When I looked at my phone at the end of the run I had a little giggle to myself as I'd run it in just over 18 mins and this used to take me 30 at the end of week 9. Next time I'm being hard on myself that I haven't made the distance I wanted (currently working on breaking through to 15k) I'll remind myself that it always comes and I just need to keep doing what I'm doing.

Well done, good time too. I was thinking about the week 9, 30 minute runs only the other day when i was trying to make up the distance. I can remember that first 30 minute run which barely took me any distance.

Thank you. I know I was so amazed when I completed week 9. My daughter has started c25k and I've been running along with her for most runs and it's been a really good reminder of how useful some of those shorter more intense runs can be.

It's so true—back in October I remember congratulating myself for running a minute non-stop, but feeling a lot like I might die afterwards. It's amazing how quickly our bodies adapt to new distances, and then those old challenges become a lovely, comfortable, relaxation run!

Yep totally agree. I've finally come to the conclusion that whilst I love running and want to improve I'm only doing this for me so can nip out for a quick run and just enjoy the time out on my own and no running god is going to strike me down for not making it a 10k everyone.😁

Glad you are finally feeling better, and that you managed a run, brilliant!

Thank you it really did me the world of good. I'm just hoping that there are no more bugs or bites for a few weeks (it will teach me not to put but spray on before gardening).
