Good morning runners! Today was unexpected and incident filled, il try to not ramble too much π€£
First off it was cold, ice everywhere and I almost didn't run at all, nearly slipped twice on my warm up walk and seriously thought about turning round and going home.
Just do a 5k I tell myself, just so I'm not missing days. First couple of Km no problems, dodging ice puddles keeps you alert! Next couple of Km my Strava stops updating me, luckily I have NRC on as a backup (forgot to mention I have Coach Bennett on as well as 90s dance) i just keep running.
Realise I've forgotten my knee support.
I come to some cycle paths and these are completely iced over so I decide to run on the grass...I hear the ice cracking under my weight after each step and my feet plunge into muddy icey puddles of water, about ankle deep π€¦πΌββοΈ I just keep running.
Left earbud goes dead.
I know I've added distance to my usual route and strava is reporting very wrong when I pull it out for a look, I'm normally close to 10k at this stage and it's telling me less than 8k and I know I've already added extra distance by running longer route π€ I've somehow turned battery saver on and messed up Strava π€¦πΌββοΈ I fix the setting and just keep running.
Angry with myself I decide that I'm running 10 miles today, I turn off away from the route home and toward a longer route, the run feels good still and i try to turn the negative into a positive, I get to keep on running!
Right earbud goes dead.
The km click by quickly on Strava now the gps is fixed π€£ then I realise that 10miles on NRC is one thing but it won't register on Strava unless I add the miles I'd missed due to GPS malfunction so work out that I'm gonna have to run even further π€£
I've now got my phone in my glove so I can hear music on loud π€£π€£π€£
I reach some uphills and my knee really feels it! Just keep running.
So in the end I run for 11.3 miles which is about 18.2km of which starva is only gonna count about 16km but hey ho these things happen and at least I had NRC as back up π€£π€£
Easily a new distance PB and I could have probably gone on to 20k but all the problems I had finally made me call it a day π€£π€£ I ran slowly and carefully and was out for about 1hr50 mins.
Good luck anyone running today it is testing out there!

That's a good time for you considering the ground conditions, nothing worse than putting your feet into a icy muddy puddle, well done on completing that PB 11.3 miles in less than 2 hours. π ππΎ
Thanks Al, my first run over 13k so was very pleased to get as far as I did in those conditions! I can't wait for spring to really let loose πππ»
Wow that is fantastic! Over 10 miles despite the road conditions and your various challenges. Today I am awarding smug points and I've decided that you need to get huge amounts for this. π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯ I think you also need a few medals ποΈπ π₯π and a fanfareπΆπΊππ£π·π₯
Wow- how you kept going after all that Iβll never know! That is an incredible distance covered- I certainly havenβt got the strength to reach those distances yet- well done! π¦π¦π¦
Very pleased with the distances, furious with the tech and the weather π€£ it amazing how quickly the body can become capable of running so far, really unexpected not only that I can but that I want to and that I quite enjoy it π€£π€£π€£
OMG, 18.2km's, what are you like!!!π₯³π₯³π₯³ππππͺπͺπͺπ₯΅π₯΅π₯΅
It's funny, probably all the other things going on, puddles, earpods, apps failing π€£ took your mind of the running, it's amazing how quickly the body gets used to going further, hope the knee's ok later!
Cheers Peter, yeah I certainly didn't have time to get board during all that running π€£ fingers crossed for the knee, silly forgetting the support but it was only last few miles it started to hurt π€π»
π₯π₯π₯ ahem.. not only 10 miles but OVER 11 miles π³π³ π¦π¦ Well done matey!!! What an excellent effort in the face of multiple adversities. Seriously impressive. Youβre going to be running marathons soon! Feel your pain on the loss of earbuds and no music π«, no knee support, Strava not playing ball..waahh! But you smashed it πͺπΌ hope youβve felt super chuffed all day, you deserve it.
