6.6km last run week 3

Boy it was hot. I didn’t want to go. But I’m on track for my 8km race on August 11th. Stretching and strengthening are working well to keep me injury free. I feel like I’m running through treacle but my times are ok to hopefully run 8km with my 50 minute pacer friend. Or at least to keep her in my sights. 🏃 keep hydrated guys

Well done Paula. You’re right - it’s been really hot today. And I think next week is getting hotter again. I think I’ll try and get out early again tomorrow as I’ve been running far too late. 🏃‍♀️☀️😓

The advantage of running in the afternoon was that I had a bowl of strawberry and chocolate ice cream afterwards in a cafe. I don’t know if I’d have that at 7am 😉

No you're right there. I think we might have breakfast out instead

I’m a running with incentives gal myself 😉

Postscript: we did have breakfast. Too hot to sit outside though.

Well done Paula. Glad all the strength/stretch work is helping. I definitely feel a lot better for it.

I'm sure you will be ready to blitz the 8k, however I guess the heat at the moment is another factor with time.

We will be close to graduating 10k then so 8k will feel like a walk in the park

😰😎

I'm cautious Lorijay and am only going up by .5km per week. I really don't want to get injured so i'll keep up the strength/stretch work. I'm a bit like you and becoming slightly obsessed with it. I've even started Pilates. How are you doing? Are you going up to 8km this week?

I am really enjoying the strength work and like you believe this is so important for me remaining injury free. Also having a runners massage fortnightly and therapist is a marathon runner so also great talking with him as he offers lots of advice. Apparently regular sports massages ( he has tailored these for runners) are also good for preventing injuries ( yes I think obsessive describes us well)

Yes 8k Wednesday morning 🤔🤔

Thanks Empem. Hope calves and shins settle and you can get back out there. How are you doing with 10k plan? :) :)

Hi Lorijay. I 'm up to week four, but pushing through a PB 5k at 34mins was my joy and my downfall! So I'm going to 'walk my runs' this week then back on track I hope . Just wanted to nip the mildly crippling niggles in the bud now , take the time rather than run through them this time. Then onwards and upwards to 4k and 8k I hope . Lets do this thing!

Yes Empem, lets do this or as MJ used to say "you got this". Impressive 5k time, well done! that is my goal to get to 30 mins, long way off yet (38min) but I will crack it just not sure when ..lol..

Really sensible resting the niggles, I don't want to to be back on IC any time soon so not trying to increase distance and speed at the same time, learnt my lesson.

Hope you're back soon, will ensure loads of support as we make our way to the podium in the coming weeks. :) :)

Thanks L. Good to share the stuff that's flitting around my head because I'm not running! Have a great week.

Thank you and you too. We'll catch up later in the week and see where we're at.:) :)

Wow that sounds brilliant. 8k Race . Wow that's such a good incentive.

See you out there again soon! Have taken a week on the IC to let calves and shins settle down and going to 'walk my runs' after advice from Pilates teacher this week to get moving again. So in another week back to running . Oh boy it feels like a lifetime since I ran my mid week mid JuJu 5k . Missing it so much!

in reply toEmpem

I’m going to my 2nd Pilates class tomorrow. I like it ! Good for you for listening to your teachers advice. I think core work and Physio are essential as we head towards 10km. No rush either. I’m planning my first 10km for early October.

I am a bit at sea calendar wise, but generally following the JuJu plan in order with a vague aim of reaching the magic 10 " in the autumn" whenever that is!

I am looking at my chart and thinking " C'mon c'mon". I'm thinking that one hour of Pilates isn't enough but can't motivate myself to spend more time on my body. I think I probably need more...wish I was 20/30/40 again!

in reply toEmpem

Or even 50 !

Yes or even 50 ( three years ago!)

Hi Paula, i do Pilates and yogalates in my local gym every week . Its impossibly hot in the studio and I’m hoping there will be an onshore breeze tomorrow so that it’s a bit cooler.

Well done! You definitely earned strawberries and chocolate ice cream running in this heat ☀️😎 🍓

Hey Bridget. I miss you. How are you doing? Can I tempt you onto the bridge? 😉

I am going to be tempted soon but not til it’s a bit cooler, I’m struggling to get to 5k in this heat 😅😅 you are doing brilliantly 😀
