You are not the only person today 'Croughtonrunner' who has an ache in your right hip, since last Wednesday mine has also been a bit sore, it stopped me for the first time going for a run on Saturday morning, I am not sure if my recent runs have had anything to do with that, in the past before I started running occasionally have had a sore back, rather than a sore hip. This morning, Monday I did manage to sort of jog very slowly 7/1 minute runs with a 90 second walk, a bit like week 1 runs but slower This afternoon after taking 2 ibuprofen pills with my lunch (it says on the packet take 1 or 2 with or just after a meal) my hip is not nearly as sore, I just hope the soreness does not come back as I am hoping on Wednesday morning to at last run a full 5k run after running about 9/30 minute runs including my 30 minute graduation one, but not just making the full 5k distance, hopefully I can do that run on Wednesday morning. I don't have a foam roller, however, I can do all other exercises, it's just walking and running that the hip gets sore.

Hi Al, could it be a strain if you are pushing for speed every run.

5k in 30 minutes requires a pace of around 6min per k which is very fast for a new runner...

Why not do some slower runs but get to the 5k that way. Once you can do the distance at a comfortable pace, you can maybe work on increasing your distance or speed. No need to rush to do it all before you have built good strong running legs.

Take care not to get injured.x

Thank you 'Bluebirdrunner', I will make sure I will not get injured and take it easy, I am a bit annoyed with myself regarding the first post-graduation run, at a pace of 06.52/km I stopped dead at exactly 30 minutes after covering 4KM. 366 metres, not because I was tired, just because it was 30 minutes, if I had continued at that pace, according to Strava Pace Calculator I would have done the full 5K in 34m.20 seconds. Now the only thing that my sore hip is affecting is running and as you say I don't want it to get worse, today it has not been sore at all but if I start to run, it's then I feel it getting a bit sore, I'll just have to wait until it completely heals before attempting a full 5K run.

Hi Croughtonrunner, a few days rest maybe to see if it settles.

Ibuprofen gel maybe if you can feel where the strain is.

I see you have been doing the c25k+ podcasts which is short light steps, so you are probably not overstriding..

Do you run on rough or uneven ground.?

Hope it settles soon😊x

On both ... three runs a week on the road and my park run is on rougher ground. today I’m feeling it down the side of my leg when I stretch so I’m thinking it may be itband so I’m doing some stretches for that and ibuprofen gel !
