Didn’t want to run today - but I’m so glad I did.

I am not someone who usually bears her soul, but running has had such a positively profound affect on me that I have to say something here.

All of the trials of the last year suddenly caught up with me yesterday d it was so hard to find the energy and the motivation to even start running today. It’s been the year from hell, with my husband being rushed into hospital 6 hours after exchanging contracts to move 100 miles away. His recovery has been really slow and there have been so many other problems I have had to deal with. But I know I feel better when I run.

I could feel the panic coming over me before I went out today, but I just had to get out of the house and once I started I felt so uplifted. I could have run for so much longer but I’m a recent graduate from C25K and I don’t want to over do it, I can see why Forrest Gump got so carried away. When I run out in the lovely countryside I feel in control again. Starting running in April is one of the best things I have ever done.

What a gently powerful post .Thank you for sharing your run.It doesn't have to be about big goals does it? Smaller achievements are richer sometimes and building distance gradually is an absolute rule, so I've learned here. And you did it .You got out and ran.You overcame the fear and feel better.

I think I run just as much for my mind as my body.Keeping strong both mentally and physically for you will help your hubby and I wish you both well.x

Hi Nannymo. Sorry to hear you have had a rough time lately. But very pleased you have found running helps you.

I know exactly what you mean about running helps with strength of mind and body. I run for the ‘me time’ to help my through the anquish of family health issues. I run also to keep me physically fit enough to deal with any further eventualities.

You may run solo Mo, but on this forum you never run alone.

Thank you for posting this, Nannymo. Life can really throw us some rubbish sometimes, eh? I am so happy that you are finding some relief / release in running. Such a healthy way to deal with things, too. I identify with what you say – I love the control I feel when I go out for a run. My world could be collapsing around me, yet the running gives me a focus to just turn off from everything for a short while, which I believe is what makes it so good for mental health. Starting running is one of the best things I have ever done, too. xxx
