Good morning my running buddies, well this morning I did 6k as my first run of w2. It was slow but doable. Beautiful crisp morning down at the canal at 5:30 and only a couple of cyclists to be seen.
I have to admit that I am disappointed in my times at the moment so ended w1 with 2.5k run using this as a fartlek session. Well quite comical really, in hindsight only, ended up wheezing and wanting to reach for an inhaler although not asthmatic I have had exercise induced asthma back in my softball playing days and used an inhaler for emergencies. I laughed about my session afterwards, thinking you silly old woman, but I will continue to do these speed enhancing sessions as whether my goal is realistic or not I will fight and work to get as close to a 30min 5K as I can, might take me a long time and I'm ok with that.
Anyway back to this run, after I got home and showered I was sitting on the edge the bath (sorry if tmi) reflecting on the run and slowness I had this moment of joy that here it was 6:45 in the morning and I had already done a 6k run when 3 and half months ago I couldn't run for a min, disappointment on speed has disappeared, replaced by a sense of wellbeing and a big smile.
R2 will be 5k Worcester Race for Life on Sunday. Although a little apprehensive going on my own I am sure once I arrive the enjoyment of running with so many women for a wonderful cause the excitement and pleasure will take over.
Sorry a bit rambly today, just feel good and wanted to share.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and happy running.

Thanks Lou. Yes important to remember where we started. I just read your post, lovely nails !! so pleased to hear you are feeling positive albeit disappointed too. You will be back on the tarmac in no time and I imagine a lot stronger given your current strengthening regime, well done.
Thanks Jay, appreciate your support too! I really want to post pics but unitl my son comes up next month I have noi idea how to! You will note there has never been a pic..tech geek.
I take photos on my phone but I am on the computer or ipad when I log on here so cant quite work out how.. I know pathetic!! lol..lol
Well done you! Brilliant in so many ways! I'm so behind with tech too. it is partly a matter of what we want to give our time to. I can move photos from my camera to my computer, but not from phone to computer. And podcasts ...ah... also something for the future! all the very best with your next runs!
Thanks 61. Yes I too can do camera to computer but not phone to computer but I've decided that is what adult children are for
Thank you for your support. Hope you are doing ok too.
Hello Lorijay! I’m on my last day of holidays and I’m on W2R2 so we can keep each other company. I’m disappointed with my times but put it down to running on a thread mill which I couldn’t get the hang off. Let’s cheer ourselves on as we’ve come back from the IC. 👍 we’re fabulous lean, mean running machines
Actually I’m a pot bellied, slightly grumpy running machine at the moment. I’ve never eaten so much cake in my life ! It’ll be nice to get home and back to running on terra firma. 6km for me on Sunday hopefully.
Hey you got to enjoy the holiday, cake and all. It will all drop off as we progress through the plan. Has it been a good break? Good luck for Sunday. No niggles??
I took my elderly parents on a cruise and it actually was much more fun than I expected. My dad is 84 and he went to the gym with me. He cycled 20km while I ran. He was a cross country runner until his 50s so I was very conscious of my form and speed. I got 3 massages to help with my niggles. Such decadence! I’m going to spread my runs out a bit and get back to strengthening and stretching when I get home. How about you ? Doing ok ?
Wow what an amazing Dad! Oooo decadence, love it. Yes I'm ok Paula, really militant about my strength work and I actually think it is helping.
I've got a sports/runners massage booked for Monday evening. The therapist is a marathon runner and provides "runners massage" so all going well I'll do that regularly too.
Wonderful report Lorijay. Love your enthusiasm! You're doing amazing, knocking them off one run at a time. Massive respect at your internal training, it's hard with a capital H. 😟
Don't forget the slow, long runs also help with 5K pace. Don't understand the mechanics but I've read enough to follow that both are important.
So, keep on keeping on, but don't push to the point of asthma attacks, none of us want to see that!
Also, it might be safer carrying an emergency inhaler... just in case.
I also suffer exercise induced asthma and allergy-induced asthma. Had to leave a gym class once to deal with an attack, not good!
Enjoy the next one, I look forward to the report! Xx
Thanks Sharon, really encouraging words. Yes I am going to get inhaler for emergencies! Been reading a lot about intervals and speed training and I think I need a bit longer recovery between each one which appears to be recommended by some. I was only recovering for about 90 seconds so going to try them again with my next short run but will lengthen the time. 😊😊
