So last week I tried to get myself back up and running. I had a couple of runs in the week and then when it got to the weekend I just couldn't face it. I had scheduled to run on Sunday but after a strange end to the week involving a very late night work on Friday and more on the Saturday an early start on Sunday morning to beat the heat just didn't seem like a great idea.
I remembered someone saying you need to enjoy your run! Getting up after barely any sleep has not as yet entered my dictionary of definitions for enjoyment. I needed more sleep otherwise it would be like an episode from Zombie Run.
So gasp, shock, horror … no run!
Instead I had a nice lie in followed by a 15km walk to/around/back the local country park including picnic.
Back into my stride today and for the first time in a while my heel which has been feeling tight was fine. Maybe the extra couple of days did me good. Took it nice and easy just 4km with stops whenever I fancied it for a bit of a breather and a bit of stretching. Looking forward to getting my distance back up when the weather eases back to something a little bit cooler.

We need to find our levels sometimes, and it's all good.Taking extra days when sore makes sense and lack of sleep is horrible. You will get back to it in your own way I'm sure and running will be sweeter still.
You ran, and that’s the main thing. I did just 1k yesterday. Today, when it was cooler and I’d had more sleep, I couldn’t face running. Strange how that happens once in a while. Ive learned to respect it.
Well done for getting back out there, this heat is really difficult, though I'm off tomorrow, and I think it's cooled off a bit here, so I plan to be out early-ish to take full advantage, I think my legs have just about recovered from the weekend. Running on empty is never good though, you need to recharge.
All the best, and I really hope you're back to full strength soon Richard.
