Are nettles performance enhancing?

15k this morning. Was aiming for 16 but at various points on the way I’d have settled for 10 so I’ll take it. Especially in this heat.

First 5 on trails with great views and lots of nettles. The photo shows the start of a section where the path is barely visible. I tried picking my way through this on Thursday but today just ploughed through. Similar level of stings so I think fast is best.

Last 10 on roads. I find it much easier to settle into a steady pace on tarmac and once I’d done that 15k felt achievable. Home before 8am and breakfast has rarely tasted so good.

Nothing like nettles to get your cadence high and your knees up!! Hopefully it was a good breakfast and not quinoa in an earthenware bowl :-)

Unfortunately there was no fry up (which would have been perfect) 😭

Aww, noooo.... Times like that you need the smell of bacon!!

Oh definitely, Ive got te nettle rash to prove it. I wore leggings instead of capris the other day and the bastards still got me.

Ive yet to do 15k through circumstances, so kudos

To be fair there are only a couple of really bad nettles sections, 500m max. I couldn’t do 15k in those conditions. Actually I don’t think I can do more that 5k on trails at the moment. Ground is so hard and uneven - especially bad after it was really cut up in the wet spring.

Yes, I’m finding 5he same: paths treacherous, mud crack d into craters you can turn an ankle in.

Sounds like a great run but think I'd have insisted on the fry up after 15k.

Nettles are now the only think stopping me wearing shorts on most of my routes. As it is I end a lot of runs with the lower 1/4 of each leg looking like they've been dragged through a hedge backwards- when of course what I've actually done is driven them through it forwards 😂

Congrats on the increasing distance though.

Thanks. It’s odd isn’t it how I would usually avoid nettles at all cost and now having red slightly itchy legs all day doesn’t bother me at all.

Lovely, trails are way more fun. I was wading through a jungle last week and ended up with a bra full of seeds!!
