Race for Life 10k

I am doing this tomorrow! Not prepared unfortunately so wondered if any of you lovely people could give me some advice?!

End of May I was running approx 8k, slowly but I was doing it. During Half term week went on holiday to Italy and really struggled to motivate myself to run when I got back. I have been running twice a week roughly the longest distance managed 6.5k. I think my problems mainly mental rather than physical but am disappointed with myself. What’s done is done though and getting through things that are difficult is all part of the reason I want to run in the first place!

I experienced something similar after completing C25k and got through that so going to keep at it.

So for my 10K was thinking of running a k walking a min. Good plan? I did a short 4K run this morning doing something similar and it felt OK.

One of my customers at work who has just completed Iron Man suggested having some sort of pre plan Jeffing strategy so that I don’t feel like I am getting over tired and failing. I thought it was a good idea and wondered if anyone had any other ideas?

I think race for life is pretty laid back and looking forward to completing it and the feeling of accomplishment I have got in past from running!

If you’ve run 6.5k you can do this. Just go slowly and see how you feel. Maybe plan to Jeff the last 5K? I’m not sure if that works for you. Personally I think I’d find running and walking early on quite tough to think about and would rather see how far I’d get. We are all different though. I think you’ll find it is pretty laid back so have fun and well done for giving it a go 😊

clareo65. I feel the same as you . Once I start to do a bit of walking I find it tough mentally to start running again. Even though mynrun is often slower than others walk I just feel like I need to run.

AndG , see how you feel when you’re actually doing it. The crowd and others may mean you just sort of go with the flow and keep running or you might decide you need to walk to make sure you can finish. It’s good to have a plan but sometimes neither our mind or bodies seem to have read the plan lol.

I bottled mine and only entered the 5k but at the time I had only just graduated. Mine is next Sunday.

Hope it goes well but most of all I hope you enjoy it xx

I don't think you need to do a run/walk unless you want to. You can run the full 10K. Just start off slowly and try to run the first half slower than the second. If you run too fast early on you'll lose your puff and the second half will be hard. Pace yourself, it's your race so don't be chasing other runners!

As you say though, this race will be laid back so just relax and enjoy the atmosphere. I'm sure there'll be lots of people in fancy dress so think of it as a running show and relish in it!

Good luck and I look forward to reading your race report afterwards.

I agree with Irishprincess (doffs cap respectfully)😀

But if you do intend to add in walks, i always have a timed walk. One minute is plenty long enough.

Without that structure you may end up walking, walking, walking, which for RFL is ok anyway.

Good luck and enjoy🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻
