May The 4th Be With You....Jedi Academy Rebel Fun Run😎

I have been looking forward to today for ages.. My Virtual Runner charity fun run with a Star Wars theme!

I had been planning to be running a 10k for this, but was scuppered by getting rhinitis and conjunctivitis near the beginning of April so my running schedule went out the window. I was following Ju ju's plan so got back to Week 3 and pencilled in a 7k for today...

Beautiful morning, I was excited getting into my running kit, no need for a jacket today, capris, and opted for a short sleeve shirt...

Set up ZombiesRun! to keep me company for the first 5k, set my Garmin to load then after my warm up walk across the playing field and through the woods..started my run.

I had noticed four ladies doing Nordic walking with poles on the field, and by the time I had run up my little lane and back at the start of my run they had just emerged from the woods. They seemed to be assembling for a chat, and gave me a cheery Good morning as I ran passed and said hello.

Out onto the pavement beside the main road, its a flat route, and happily lots of dappled shade to run through, as it was warming up. I realised I could have gone for my sleeveless running top after all. I could see I was making quite good progress, but was careful to keep it steady..I wanted to finish my target distance.

Its my favourite time of year, with everything springing into life, new buds and leaves, all the blossoms all fresh and new..

Zombie runs finished at around 3.5k and went into radio mode...this is when they carry on chatting like DJs about your music, its quite funny..they say things like, i had my first kiss to this record, (happened to be papa don't preach), wait til you hear this next record (hammer to fall )..it makes me laugh wondering which tune will come up next...

Turned round at around 4k , its always feels better on the way back, ever so slightly down hill ..😊

I was feeling a bit tired, but knew I could finish. Once the 5k was done, I eased a little, you can't help hoping you've done a pbπŸ˜‰, looking forward to finishing I started thinking about how other runners on the forum are doing. Its nice knowing we are all in this together, whatever our targets.

As I got to 6k, just one to go, I realised that I may not carry on working towards another 10k at the moment. It was hot, and I had a reason to do it before, but for now may just stick to 5 or 6k which are more fun.. I was tired when I thought thisπŸ˜†

So..right near the end, almost ran out of running track, almost tripped on the curb and fell...stopped the Garmin at exactly 7k...

I already have my medal and have posted my result on Virtual Runner. JOB DONE.

Very happy and it seems The Force Was With Me!

Happy running everyone 😊 xxx

SaskAlliecat...it was you who put me onto this Star Wars run..have you done yours yet?

Nice job! I wish I'd known about this. I did 6.2k at lunchtime, so could have easily added another 0.8.

It was a fun event on Virtual runner Mike, they do lots. This was a choose your own distance and there will be a leaderboard of results I think. You pay entry, part of which goes to charity and receive a medal... they do 5k and 10k virtual events too.

Take a look...

I was thinking about all the Star Wars themed virtual runs this weekend while I was out running today. I signed up for Revenge of the Sixth and am planning an 8k run on Sunday (it is supposed to be a 5k run, so I'll have to see how I'll do it. I won't be able to do a longer run for another week so maybe I'll do a 5k followed by a 3k and just report the 5k part?)). I had initially told my son if he ran the 5k with me (run/walk), I'd give him the medal. The poor kiddo has had so much cardio this week between soccer 2 days, 2 basketball games on Wednesday, a basketball tournament all day tomorrow and a dance last night where he danced his little heart out, I told him that he could have it whenever he does a 5k run with me. I got the medal last week in the post, as well. I can't believe how heavy it is. It's a pretty sweet Death Star πŸ˜†

I still haven't quite figured out what your "virtual" runs are since you are definitely running for real :-) and very well indeed! I'm not sure we have that in France... But I suppose I can register for one on the Internet?

The force is with you, Jan. Enjoy more running in the spring!

Ha, thank you, it is running...but you do it by yourself and upload your results afterwards. There are lots of choices of events, its on the internet.

You do the run wherever and whenever you like within the timescale.

I did a Poppyrun this way in November.

Have a look at this

Thank you, Jan, for the explanation and the weblink :-) I'm going to have look and perhaps register for another 10k run.

Bling is lovely Jan. Well done. And you did so well after your spell of yukness. Here's hoping that's all behind you now.

That's a worthwhile charity. A cousin and a friend have both lost children to this. It's tragic.

Have a lovely weekend x

Ah, thank you IP, that is so sad, sorry to hear that.x

Hope you have a lovely weekend 😊x

Well done Jan. Glad you enjoyed yourself :)

It is a good distance and great to be running for a good cause. I had sort of forgotten about the virtual races so the reminder is welcome. I will sign up for something I think :)

Thank you Helen, yes its good to have an incentive sometimes. I think more of the entry fee could go to the charities... but everything helps.

Last time I looked I was 6th on the leaderboard! Maybe I won't look again πŸ˜‰. xxx

Well done Jan! Thats a nice piece of bling! I also picked up a Jedi medal to mark a long distance run a little while back. They are lots of fun.
