This running is a funny old game as you never know what to expect.I found 7k a breeze with no general tiredness or aching & stiff legs. Last week I did 8k and although I did not feel too bad it was the last 1k where I struggled a bit.
This run was done on the Monday and for the rest of the week up till the Sunday I felt stiff & tired well at least my calves felt stiff.I did not know really what to expect come this weeks No 7 run of 9k but I was expecting to be walking like I had 2 planks for legs.
Well I was surprised, after the usual 10-15 mins of settling in I got into a rhythm and followed the advice of our members to do the 1st 5k at a slower pace than my normal 5 k. Come to 8.5 k it felt like I had done no running at all!! My heart beat was fairly low & consistent but it was my breathing which I do normally struggle with that surprised me. My breathing was so normal to be scary,it was like I was just sitting down taking to someone!! really weird. My legs in general felt a bit tired but nothing drastic. I went in after run and had 2 cups of tea and 1 protein biscuit which was classed as breakfast for me. Had a shower and a cup of coffee,I now take coffee with out sugar and I like it but for the life of me cannot get on with T without sugar.
Anyway once coffee out of the way I went straight out and was laying on my back for about 1:1/2 hours painting the conservatory. Some pottering around with plants then lunch of a sarnie & banana followed with an hours kip.Got up around 2:30 and was back out in the garden till around 17:00 then another shower and 5 cracker breads with peanut butter for evening meal and watched a film.
At no time during the day or even now did I feel stiff. I bet come next weeks 10k run I struggle and will be completely cream crackered, sods law.
It is so much better running early in the morning when it is cool. I remember years ago in summer I used to get up and go for about an hours walk as dawn was breaking so pretty early really. I used to walk along the river Thames on the border of Oxfordshire & Wiltshire. There was a mist on the river and the air was as clean and cool as it was going to be for the rest of the day.
Sadly not a runner then but something I would love to do now.
