Parkrun VI guide training fun

I had a lovely relaxed parkrun today as I ease back into my hm training mileage. Afterwards I had signed up to the visually impaired runners guide training so I could help guide a visually impaired runner around the course in the future. It was hugely enlightening on how these runners are just amazing. We had to work in pairs starting with one blindfolded whilst the other guided them walking some of the route. Being blindfolded meant you could feel every bump and uneven surface. It was very disorientating. We got to running our blindfolded partner around with both verbal and arm communication as we were tethered by the hand or forearm. It was actually great fun and I learnt a lot. We have a visually impaired runner at our parkrun who runs in 22 minutes, way faster than me but I have huge respect for his attitude and determination to run. Maybe in the future I can help a visually impaired runner to run our local parkrun.

Kudos to you for taking the course and hopefully some day you will get to use it. What a neat experience.
