Gloves help

I seem to be suffering from Reynaud's and running yesterday reduced me to tears when my hands started to thaw out after going out for a quick half hour run. Can anyone recommend any gloves that can help?

You can get quite a variety of heated rechargeable gloves these days. Maybe more designed for winter sports than running but who cares eh. They do sell reynauds gloves with silver in the weave that is meant to help retain heat but that just sounds a bit like snake oil. If silver worked so well all gloves would feature it. Hope you find something that helps. Maybe try some hot hands sachets tucked into your current gloves in the interim.

Try the hot hands inserts, also two pairs of layered gloves help as does (and it sounds snake oily but its not), warm up tin foil with a hairdryer and put it in your gloves. Makes a hell of a mess, when you’re done, but Mr JCR swears by it when he is riding his bike in this weather. And he goes out for 100km rides with wind chill.

I have suffered with that for many years and it is a real problem. I motorcycle a lot and have recently found something which helps. A pair of silk inner gloves which fit nicely inside the proper gloves have made a real difference. They are only about £8 a pair and really help. I am told that Merino inner gloves are good as well. They are light enough to fit inside a good pair of running gloves.

I've gone through a few gloves too and found that mitts are even warmer than gloves, as your fingers help to keep one another warm inside the mitt. I found a thinner pair that are not too bulky that have saved my hands on the longer cold runs. Mine are from a shop in Canada here: mec.ca/en/product/5034-337/... but I'm sure there are similar types on amazon etc.

I got at a pair of running gloves as a gift that I absolutely love. They seemed super thin so didn't think they would be good for winter running but are surprisingly warm. What I like is that they are a windproof glove with a thin little mitt layer that you can wear early on in the run, but when your hands warm up, you can peel the mitt part back and they tuck into the top of the glove. I find after 10-15 minutes, my hands warm up nicely and often can peel it back. I'm just not sure with Reynaud's and the poor circulation, if they'll be enough, but I use them for even my coldest runs (-20's C). These aren't my exact glove, but they are the same style as what I have, just to give you an idea llbean.com/llb/shop/502856?...

I'd be a bit cautious about heated products with Raynaud's, but I'm sure you know what's what around that. I think the inner lining would be a good plan. Might be worth wearing them indoors for a while before you even venture out and you could maybe keep the inner lining on for the whole run to avoid a sudden temperature change. Hope you find something to suit -that must have been so painful.

Thanks all, will try some of the recommendations, mittens plus hand warmers or inner liners sound good!

I too have Reynauds (thanks dad, for your genetic gift) and find that wrapping merino buffs around my wrists seems to help. For some reason this seems more effective than gloves. I can also retract my fingers into the buffs or pull them right over my hands if the wind chill gets too much, which is often around here!

Mittens for me, when really, really cold ...moving my fingers about keeps them warmer than in gloves..

These for ordinary cold:) I have found them really good,

My daughter feels the cold. She uses a thin pair of gloves, inside a pair of mittens. The reusable heat pads, where you click the disc to get them to warm up, might help too.

I've been getting painful stiff fingers, have read Mittens are best for retaining heat than fingered gloves..😊

My partner suffers. When we went to Iceland he used theseamazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01...

He usually says gloves dont make a difference, but as long as he put them on before going outside, they really helped. They are not heated, they just stop heat escaping.

Oops link truncated, sorry. They are on Amazon, thermal cycling gloves, about £6 for two pairs, and windproof too. They keep the temperature in, so if you have cold hands when you put them on, they will stay cold!

My husband has Reynauds - he is always careful to put gloves on before going out while his hands are still warm. He has thermal gloves, but even so, his hands tend to get cold.

I got some running gloves from New Balance. They are thin, warm and windproof - I wouldn't have been without them this week. Do you wear a hat as well when you run?
