Thought I would take a minute to reflect upon my first experience of parkrunning. Attended the Lancaster parkrun on this last Saturday along with my son and his wife (it was his birthday) we decided on the previous Thursday to run this together as a trio of newbies.
As the majority of my running experience from Cto5K onwards has been running on my own it was quite strange to run with just over 300 other people around a quite hilly course (described as undulating -ha!) in Williamson Park.
I have to say I enjoyed it tremendously, there was quite a rush of adrenaline as we all set off, thankfully downhill to begin with, but we soon got down to some running through deep puddles, on muddy paths, and up some quite steep though thankfully mostly short rises.
A big thank you to all the organisers they were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful and the experience has certainly made me think positively about the whole parkrun experience. I think my next one will in all honesty be more local to home possibly in Keswick and hopefully on a much flatter course, after all got to think about the old knees…🏃🏼🏃🏼
