Up to 6.6 km yesterday. Back to 3 runs per week. Going to take it steady through January and then maybe start pushing up to 10k over the next couple of months.
A good start to the year with 4 runs (which is now pretty standard). A horrible 5k on New Year's Day which seemed to consist of 200m running, 400m of walking, heavy legs, tiredness - and hangover! Then back to work and my early morning runs, which are now up to 6k. Two of those. And the final long run on Sunday in fog - but very exhilarating. All in all nearly 28k which I can't complain about. I really need to mix things up a bit and get some intervals/fartleks in, but I'm very wary of running as fast as I can in the dark. The street lights are on but the pavements are occasionally uneven and I don't want to end up on my face. Roll on the longer days!
So over Xmas I thought I would do a few short fast runs with the hope of getting my speed up for the 5K, then week 1 of quest I thought I would do a longer run and download the 10k app - I started at week 9 as it picks up there from the C25K but I couldn't run for more than 16 mins!! Oh dear, all those mince pies ...... I tried again on Monday and ran it much slower and surprise surprise it worked! So this week I am practising slow and steady again. Have invested in some rather lovely minty lip balm as well which psychologically seems to make it easier (!) Ill keep you posted on whether different flavours have different effects.
Managed my b210k W1R1 (long run) at last after a nasty cold had me grounded for 6 days. Onwards and upwards! It 's great to move from c25k to this new challenge.
Found out yesterday that I can run as far as I like. Sort of.
Set three new records on Garmin. 1) Time spent running. No plaudits on the screen because it was directly linked to 2). Slowest ever pace. Yes the slowest pace since I stopped run/walk intervals. I can actually run comfortably at 150 bpm. No second wind. First wind never ran out. 3) Garmin did give me a little on screen trophy for longest distance again. I only stopped running because I had to get home to take Mrs SL to an appointment.
