I did my one and only 10k sort of accidentally in June - after a few weeks of not running I went out hoping for a couple of miles and ended up doing 6.2 (I had done a few 5ks and lots of 2 miles [3.25k]). I've been fairly sporadic since due to other commitments and now want something structured to keep me running through winter, as last year I only ran once a week. I don't anticipate lots of 10k's after but you never know...
I’m attempting this in order to end up with a ‘solid 5k’ - so I may just try the 2 shorter runs per week. And watch and applaud the rest. Or do some ‘wait for me’ walking !!! Anyway nice to have a structure thanks @ju_ju
Hi ju-ju, what is the basic structure of the training? Is it like Couch to 5k - i.e. three runs a week which all push further than the previous week, or two shorter runs and a longer one? I'm asking because I'd like to know how much time is involved, and also because I'm not sure I can manage three longer runs a week (for health reasons).
I feel a bit like that but I'm working on the idea that if it takes longer than 6 weeks it takes longer than 6 weeks (like c25k took longer than 9 weeks).
Be gentle - recovering from not one but two Gastrocnemius injuries (one on each leg just to share it out).... walk running and 5k's seem ok just now...
Sadly, I'm going to cancel myself out of this group. Trying to get back from a mild hip injury but still not running three times a week yet. I'm going to be sensible and hang on til the second cycle of '10 is the magic number'. Good luck to everyone - I will be cheering you on from the sidelines. I'm very envious, but hopefully look forward to being ready to go for it in January.
Hi, I'm not sure how I could ever run 10k but 3 months ago I'd have said I could never run 5k so I'm up for trying this. Nothing ventured as they say. So please sign me up.
