The running gods were shining down on me today for my first 10k (Windmill 10k). Apart from freezing a whatnot off in the loo queue before the start, the weather was crisp, the wind was not as bad as expected and the skies were blue. It was also handy that the first mile was a loop back past the start so could chuck unwanted clothing at hubs as I passed
I knew when I first set off that I was going to have a good run and went round with a smile on my face and a spring in my step. Was hoping for 1:15 but did it in 1:05 and was over the moon.
The only downside for me was the nordic walkers who seem to insist on starting from the front of the pack and then walk 3 a breast and it was impossible to pass them. The first mile was narrow and I lost at least a minute trying to get past. Have sent a suggestion to the organisers. If it's chip timed then why can't they start behind the runners or even a separate start 15 minutes after. It can't be pleasant for them to have 1000 people trying to get past them.
