Is this normal??? Set off this morning determined to shake off a deflated parkrun on Saturday only to stop after 6 mins...and nearly ever 4 mins thereafter..then when I got to the park & saw my house I just turned everything off & sloped Home...feeling absolutely gutted

I don't know if there is a normal as every one of is different, facing their own challenges. I am humbled by the challenges some people here have run through. So don't be too hard on yourself. Just like in sports when a team can slip into a slump, its not forever. This is only two off runs. The most important thing is don't give up! Maybe give yourself a couple of days rest and go back at it. Promise yourself and do it. Keep doing it until you push yourself through the other side.

Happens to the best of us.

If running was always easy and predictable, most of us nutters here - cos didn't we feel nuts even trying this program? :) - would be skydiving or Mountain climbing or arm wrestling with sharks or the like.

Only a Couch delivers predictable results ;)

Yes all normal (well as "normal" as anything we runners ever do 🙂)

There are so many factors that result in a crap run - lack of quality sleep, not hydrated enough, not eaten well the day before, coming down with something, a fight with the cat .........blah blah.

We all have bad runs. It's in the past now, so just take a day's rest and try a nice little jogette out next time and I bet you'll be tickety boo 🤗

I’ve just sat outside school & looked at the 5k+ podcast..when Laura started counting I was pretending to step along, then I put my shoulders back & looked about 2 cars in front of me...put my elbows at right angles & thought, right, I’m going to try this podcast next run...I was getting some funny looks...then I realised the car was rocking too...what a sight I must’ve looked!!?!?

The 5k+ podcasts are great! Try 'Stepping Stones' first. I sometimes find it hard to keep to the beat but Laura is such a motivation. I really like 'speed' too. Another suggestion - use Week 1 or 2 of the programme but slowly jog the 'walk' sections then run the 'run' sections. Best of luck 👍😊

Used that one myself yesterday - Laura's a bit bossier but actually found that useful now repeat after me "one two three four one two three four one two three four)" Have a good one.

Virtual Hug sent your way ---- dont despair .... Im sure it just post grad confidence blip - the graduation run is so full of adrenaline which helps us along ... as you know, I did an extra run pre graduation as wanted to do last run with my hubby who was 1 behind me ... it was terrible with tears, stops, gremlins etc ... those pesky gremlins fill us with self doubt dont they .....but BELIEVE IN YOURSELF and re read how many brilliant runs you have done -------leave the bad ones in the past and live in the moment next run ... no reflection as cant change the past, just change the future. We are very new to all of this and sure we will have good and bad runs ... all here to support each other through ---- this forum is the master of that as we both well know .

Move on and next run you will be brilliant ... :o))))))))

Just found this and it helped me:

Some runs make you feel invincible.

Some runs make you feel defeated.

Every run makes you stronger.

Go out there and conquer those pesky gremlins. We are all here cheering for you! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Definitely normal. I think everyone has their fair share of ‘practice’ runs. But I’ve decided that the harder you have to fight for something, the bigger the sense of achievement when you get there. Chalk it up to experience and come back stronger. I don’t know if it’s of any help, but I often have a change of route after a ‘challenging’ run - it’s seems to help me press the reset button but I don’t know why.

Good luck and let us know how you get on xx

Forget gremlins. They don't exist. Just crack on regardless 💪👍🏃‍♀️✔️🙂

Someone on here used to say "chuck it in the f* it bucket" when they had a bad run. I still use that expression to move on to the next.

Oh I am so going to get one of those buckets! I can apply it to so many aspects of my life! Keep the faith Mummycav109 you have inspired so many runners.

I'm new but I notice that my mind can be far more powerful than my body if I let it. It's something I'm trying to learn.

You are having the meh week I did after graduation!! Take Heart mine only lasted that one week then back on form!! Think most people feel a bit lost after the structure of the programme. It’ll pass never fear!! X

Did 1st post grad run tonight and felt like pants.

Good mate of mine from back in the online gaming days nearly 20 years ago went under the gaming name Slopester. He is a really cool person and I admire him very much. So never be upset about sloping anywhere.

I’d rather have a bad 30 minutes run than a good 30 minutes sat in my office

Just read your inspiring post, thanks GingerBohemian ...great attitude, better than me, I can be a right morngy cow when my body doesn’t do what my mind expects....shoulders back & all that for me today!! 🏃🏼‍♀️
