Non running related gremlins tripped me up today figuratively speaking so not a great run but i got out & gave it a go...next time will be better π
Gremlins!!!: Non running related gremlins... - Bridge to 10K
Gremlins!!!
Well done. You got out and ran, and that's the main thing. every run, no matter how short or uninspiring, is developing your running muscles and stamina.
Running gremlins tried to persuade me to stay home and slob around raiding the fridge today, but I managed to force myself out. Actually i have procrastination gremlins or don't go out and run gremlins every time i run. Luckily I never regret running once I've made myself actually get my kit on and get out there.xx
Oh well done π thats very true π
I do wonder what I could achieve if one day I found a permanent cure for the gremlins.
I recall the first time I did c25k some two years back , I think I stopped a few runs (of 20mins or more) within 60seconds because the shoulder demons got to me and I could not bring myself to restart. Well done for getting out.
Thankyou π these gremlins seem worse as i have had to backtrack but hopefully it wont be for too long π
I think you should try to sort of forget the backtracking and treat it as an earlier stage - while kreeping at the back of your mind the inspiring knowledge that you have achieved great things before π
Seems harder this time for some reason x
I can completely understand that. But you WILL catch up, and you may find you have strenghened your running by back tracking. Fingers crossed x
That would be nice π
No such thing!
Come on πππββοΈπͺ
Donβt worry about stuttering or stalling, itβs completely natural as new runners that we are going to struggle at times. Weβre only human. Itβs par for the course so donβt worry about it. You will move it on. Oh yes. Persistence pays off. You gotta be like a rat up a drainpipe. Like a dog with a bone π
Itβs so worth doing as youβre going to be so chuffed when you do push through ππͺπββοΈ
Thankyou π it will be worth it π
This might sound a bit dramatic but thinking of phrase βwhat doesnβt kill us makes us strongerβ
Every time you get out you have conquered those gremlins. Sometimes you can breeze through things easily but overcoming things that are difficult (sorry if this sounds cheesy!) is a really good learning experience about how to get over challenges.
you should pat yourself on the back for having tonnes of determination to carry on when it would be easy to give up!
That sounds spot on π thankyou π
Hopefully going out shortly to conquer my own gremlins shortly! Doing zen labs app my run tonight is run 25 mins walk 1 run another 25 mins. Usually disappointed with distance I cover and my pace but hey it is what it is! Will get to 10K distance at some point. My longest run is 7k so far and in Jan I couldnβt even run 1k so it is progress!
Once I have run 10K going to treat myself to some new leggings/capris (not got legs for shorts!) inspired by your and Flickβs posts! I reckon I can get there in 3 weeks!
That is amazing progress...well done π i cannot even imagine running 2 x 25 minutes!!!oh you DEFINATELY need to reward yourself without a doubt π
Thanks π Did it! But only ran 6.5k in that time. Ah well still my plod is my pace and my run! I will run 10K - just will take me a bit longer to do than average.
I think that distance is more important than pace so you are doing great in my opinion π
Ylu cant be any slower than me. It takes me and hour and 40 minutes/ish
I will let you know when I get there! I keep telling myself that I am running further and thatβs an improvement.
From your posts and lovely descriptions of your runs it sounds like you enjoy your runs. This is were I want to be. Not comparing or worrying about being slow just appreciating achievement of doing a run and enjoying being outside in nature at same time.
Going to try and stop going on about being slow!
I suppose I have the advantage that running has always been something I've done for enjoyment rather than self improvement, and I don't think about pace or time when I'm running. I'm obsessed with the stats after though, and I would like to be faster, if only because that wind in your hair feeling only comes with speed x
I have totally given up on any stats info when i run...it takes away the enjoyment for me...running is simply about feeling good(which is why it is so damn frustrating just at the moment)
You will feel good again as you are running, Claire. You've already been there, so you know that it's possible. Just a matter of time. And you're still motivated to get out despite all the trouble and gremlins, so well done!! And keep at it! Remember 15 mns exercise every day or so is better than nothing, and definitely better than one long run a week or so.
Thankyou π i know i will get there...just feeling impatient π
You got out and gave it a go..... success! Well done!
Thanks lovely π
I just wrote about gremlins over on the c25k forum and thought I repost the gist here too.
I realised a while back that when "I" (inner couch potato / flakey quitter / pipe n slippers) wants to throw in the towel, then if I "ask my legs" (or toes, neck or whatever) first, that part of my anatomy seems to be made of sturdier stuff than my grey matter! Seems odd that asking the very part of you that's hurting whether to call it a day or not could work in overcoming gremlins, but it seems to work for me. My legs are usually in charge and not my brain so to speak. It's just a bit embarrassing to be told by your legs "Thanks for your concern brain/ego, true, we are suffering a bit due to your insistence on extra training/going over the 10% rule/ not giving us the rest we needed according to the training plan / too many beers last night, but we're old soldiers and will grind on a bit more. Don't worry yourself unduly, we will certainly give you the heads up when things get serious, you just concentrate on all that self doubt and higher functions you're designed for and not trouble yourself over caveman biomechanics. Don't call us, we'll call you...."
My wife could probably tell you more about my doing without thinking abilities though...
Ah thats brilliant π thanks for that π i will most definately be giving that a go π
Love this. In my case, the legs have to be coaxed for about 2k, but that's ok because by the time I'm out and running it's too late to turn back. I've also discovered that the runs I've had in the past when i literally had to go home are in fact part of toxic 10 (or toxic 2k in my case).
