A hilly 5k today

Following the advice of a couple of friends on here, I decided that today I'd do a more hilly run. The road between here and the next village is up and down like a switchback so I set off up that. It wasn't that busy with traffic but the cars and vans that were on it were going fast. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ In a couple of places there are blind bends so in those places I decided I'd be safer on the 'wrong' side of the road so at least they could see me. A few times I had to jump onto the (high) verge to get out of the way. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Well, I did it, managed to run up the hills (and coast down!) in a slowish time. I won't be running that road again but it's given me confidence that I *might* be able to do the 'undulating' 10k that I'm thinking of entering in 2 weeks. I'm going to try a different Parkrun on Saturday, a more hilly one than my usual one, and see how that goes! ๐Ÿ˜„

I like it - strategic! But that road doesn't sound runner friendly at all. Although it was a sound enough plan. Hope the parkrun helps you feel even more ready for those hills :)

No it wasn't runner friendly Ruth! Quite a change from my usual canalside running! Anyway, it did the job. Looking forward to my Parkrun ๐Ÿ˜„

Yes - I'm thinking that I will go for it, Sandra. I do really want to attempt a 10k before winter comes in!

I'm glad that my basic Garmin fr 10 doesn't record my heart rate though! Now that would have been scary!

Oh dear that road sounds dangerous although good idea to try and get in some hills before your 10k. Best of luck with the Park run ๐Ÿ‘

Thank you, writing a diary has been a great incentive to keep up the running while on holiday, although the landscape and weather has also been very encouraging!

I've got a 10k in two weeks too. Like you I've done a few hilly runs, but they are not my favourite. Last two runs this week were hilly 10ks so I'm opting for a shorter flatter run this morning, but might include some speed intervals (which I detest).

Good luck for your 10k.
